I absolutely agree- I wanted to shine the light on the other side of the coin regarding quality of life vs financial gain. I meet a lot of drivers 40+ no wife no kids no health nothing to live for and they are starting to realize it. Ideally I think the work in the patch would better suit a fellow who has his home well established, wife, grown kids, and who did the inside job for that time and would appreciate the fresh change of pace and challenge. Ultimately, one can only decide for oneself what suits them best- again, I just wanted to provide a different point of view to consider. cheers

field, camp, ftmac, etc...$40hr is peanuts -
True but that goes back to what he was saying about spending huge amounts of time away from home. I still don't have to have a snapon account nibbling away at my paycheck. Bought a home in ft mac lately that will eat up 20 an hour al by itself

Congrats! I used to drive the 63 and 881 daily... Ugh! Which company are you in with and what's your shift? Camp life...

Prairie Boy, what don't you have or haven't you driven or done???? Man to have the experiences and driven the roads you have...

Well, thought I'd get my foot in the door.. surmont 2 looks like a ski lodge, your own bathroom in your room is a bonus.. wifi and sat tv..
its a 14/7 rotation, got on with first canada, crew bus.. trust me i've sent out a bazillion resumes and knocked on doors finally got something.
it may not be the golden job, but it'll pay more than what i'm doing at sanjel, its a decent camp and its part of oe955... -
Hi Onetrack. May not be golden but you are on the Yellow Brick Road. You may even be recognized as a Skilled Trade Person if part of oe. Part of the appeal is for me with oilfield is that trucking is a secondary consideration or incidental to the job. As OTR wages & working conditions have deteriorated, so I seek the right position where I can dovetail my skills into a viable career path. I admire what you are trying to do.
