I have said 100 times in the past and will say again .. May is a GREAT Entry Level Company .. Awesome, top of the line trucks. There, you will learn the trucking business (If ya have a will and a brain). After sometime, you decide if you want to be an Owner/Operator or a company driver (a sheep).

But while its more live unloads, you have longer runs so less time at shippers overall right?

You guys are trying to split Atoms ... both sides are the same on weekly miles... Have many considerations, type of freight, time of year, freight lines, and many different variables .. at the end of the year, which is the big picture, the miles are the same.

I just started with a small towing outfit that is offering $10/hr to start, some tips from customers, and supposedly plenty of overtime even though they have told me they are trying to hire more to help pick up slack, and daily hometime; however, no benefits and it's 5 days a week with two days on-call and possibly a rotating/non-consistant schedule. I guess I am trying to figure out which could give me more bang for my labor.

I wouldn't get out of bed for $10 an hour.....
even spotters/yard dogs get at least 14 an hour....Paloma Thanks this. -
This is what I did today I hooked a trailer took it to customer took them an hour to unload while they did this I read my book. Second stop took about same time and I read my book. Then I took empty trailer to drop at another customer. And then I did some practice in the yard moved one trailer.and im done for the day. My 10 hour day im tired but I would not trade it for a job I have to be at everyday same place.

If you take that job and in a year you want to go otr you may have to go back to school for.a refresher course

How does one live on $10.oo an Hour????

1 hour load/unload is great .. 2 hours is the expected and the norm, so anytime less is bonus. Practice backing up any time ya can. If yer done for the day and at a truck stop, go find an empty area and practice, then with some time, start challenging yerself.

The rule for the refresher course is generally 6 months of NOT driving a Semi Tractor-Trailer. (It's Insurance Companies).
