I will never buy anything from this company again !!
So here's my reason why ..... I bought a used tnd510 the other day for 18.00 so I thought I might as well buy the life time maps.
I go online and get the updates all done and I get an invoice for 95.61 charged to my debit card no problem.
I go to look at my bank account and I see there are two holds on the account from Rand McNally one for the invoiced 95.61 and one for 98.09 !!!
I remain calm and I call the wonderful customer service folks this morning and Inquire as to why they seem to want to charge me twice at different prices.
They proceed to tell that the invoice is just an estimate and they charge the real price after they gave me an online invoice for the charges to my account so the lower one will drop off and they will charge me the higher price now !!
Now granted it was just 2.48 cents but I will never buy another Rand McNally product including a trucker atlas again !! I agreed to pay one price and you decide that you want to charge me more than the price I agreed to pay then you will only get my money once !!
There was no mention anywhere on the invoice I printed out about it being an estimate I have double checked it before I started my little rant .
I get screwed enough by people I do business with when I have no choice but I will not be screwed by people I don't have to do business with them and I sure don't HAVE to business with Rand MCNally !!!
There are plenty of other outfits that I can spend my money with and not get screwed by their surprise policy system !!!
I knew I should have kept my truck a GPS free zone !!!! LOL modern technology my but !!!
The thing is I don't even use it for routing I just use the mileage and the drive time timer . Oh and the speedometer to double check myself .
So I really didn't even need to update the stupid thing for that ....
Oh well I feel netter now that I have vented but I have learned my lesson well .
Rand Mcnally will never get any of my money again

Rand Mcnally GPS's are crap. I bought one at the Pilot in Laredo and by the time I got to Dallas I had already gotten my money back for it. If you have a smart phone or tablet you should consider CoPilot Truck. It cost about $140 and its available for Android and iOS. I've been using it every since it was released and its hands down, the best truck routing option available. You only pay once and all updates, including maps are free.
snowwy Thanks this. -
Also, can you drag and pull the route to customize it, on the mobile version/
If you use it personally, do you notice it getting your phone hott at all from the constant gps use?
Ive been debating on purchasing lifetime updates for my used 510 tnd, or buying copilot app. I like how it says, you can customize your route. -
Very odd dealings. My husband has the TND 710. We finally bought the update map for it. The 1st time it was updated it was not doing well at all and kept freezing up. This last time seems to be better, but it seems to want to use every route in the book to go from A to B except the one he is supposed to be on. A lot of times I have to look up an address to use to get on a particular cowtrail he is supposed to be routed on and still have to sometimes look up a different place in an area to use the address for some of the towns who still us route numbers or it can't be located. I guess it will never be perfect and they do come in handy. I google the maps for him and let him know where the docks are or whatever, as long as it can be located.
