I am a new owner operator that is starting out.
I recently signed up with CH Robinson but I am still confused on how to book loads.

I would greatly appreciate it if the more experienced owner operators could elaborate on how to find the rates for loads and the proper way to book them.

Is calling each load and asking for the rate a good way or is there a more efficient way in booking loads?

Please reply!!! Anything will help!!!!! :biggrin_255:

    Thanks!!

It's abundantly clear that you should be leasing to a carrier and spending more time learning the industry.

Why in the world would someone "buy the business" without even knowing the basics on how to "run the business"...

Come on, guys. We all had to start somewhere. :biggrin_25510:

Call on the loads that you interested in, find out what the rate is. If you want to know what certain lanes are paying then sign up for a load board, and pay the extra for that information, its worth it most times.

When you first start out, you will end up signing up with a LOT of brokers, and then after a while, you will establish a rapport' with some and they will call you on a regular basis offering loads.

I suggest you have a "Packet" ready, with your w9, Master Certificate and also you letter of authority. Keep a list of references, because some brokers will ask for that as well.

no one wants to learn the business anymore. they all want just jump right in.

kinda like the newbies lately. just got there license and want to pull tanks right off the bat.

no one wants the knowledge anymore. they only want the money.

thanks everyone for the replies and feedback! more info on the business/industry of this would be appreciated. I know this question may seem idiotic and amateurish to the more experienced but don't judge a book by its cover. I am doing this for a friend. this is not my actual career

    thanks again!

You might have added that "pertinent" fact in your post.

Spend some time in the Load Board thread at the top of this forum. I know its a lot to sift through, but there is really good information in there.
