So here's my game plan.
Go to Schneider, get trained, get my CDL, and drive regional.
Local would be better, but not realistic, and I won't go OTR until my kids are grown.
One potential problem. I was stopped in 1988 or 89 for speeding in California. I had an expired Pennsylvania license with no registration or insurance.
I was young, dumb, and moving back to PA and never bothered to deal with the problem. The violation(s) do not show up on my driving record in PA.
My question is, can anyone tell me if that would still be "on the books"?
If so, would it prevent me from getting my CDL and how would I go about taking care of it?
After 20 years I'm not even sure where it was anymore. I think it was Torrance, L.A. County.

Yes, it will be on your record and you will be sent home/denied employment until it was taken care of. Any suspensions or unpaid fines like that will keep you from getting a CDL. Another bad thing is that if that county puts late fees and interest and other goodies on that fine, it could be 4x the amount or more, today. I had a friend try to get his CDL and he had a hitchhiking ticket from Connecticut that he got in 1996. 12 years later, it came back when they pulled his national driving record and he couldn't get his CDL until it was paid. A $20 fine ended up costing him $116. So, the moral of the story? Don't just let things like that go.

Ouch.
Are you sure you didn't mean to say, "Don't worry, everything will be just fine"? -
Go and get your driving record.. If it does not show up on it then NO they will not know about it.. It would be a COUNTY issue till they report it to the state.. If reported to the state then it would show up on your driving record.. If your license are not suspended cause of the ticket more then likely it was never reported to the STATE and is still filled away in the COUNTY records somewhere.. Thus lost....
(not always the case far as suspensions, some states are more likely to suspend then others..)
I had a ticket that was something like that and never was reported.. Nobody would ever known about it till I had to have a top secrete clearance (sounds fancy but not really if your in the military) to do a job.. (working on aircraft such as the Apache... is why)
They found it but for driving a truck you don't need a top secrete clearance and they do not check every county but just check STATES...
So, if it was never reported to the state then you will be just fine....
But is it "still on the books"? the answer is yes it is still there but again if not reported to the "state" (if so it would show up on your record) then it would be on the "county" books.. And again they do not check every county in America to drive a truck.... -
Thanks for the info.
It doesn't show up on my Pennsylvania driving record. I guess I should have my national driving record checked as soon as I figure out how to do it.
I can't wait to get out of the factory and back on the road where I belong. -
Don't go by your driving record because that will not give you all the information. I moved from one state to another and went to get my CDL changed over and they said not until you pay this parking ticket. I had no idea that I even had a parking ticket but when they told me it was from Washington D.C. I remembered.
I never had the ticket placed on my windshield or if I did someone took it off. But what burned my ##* was that I parked legally. The sign said no parking Mon-Sat and I parked there on Sunday. But what could I do but pay the hundred and something dollars so I could work.
The only way you'll know is to check with the DMV. You know they issued a warrant so chances are pretty good you'll have to clear that up.Jeffronic Thanks this. -
Yes, you'll want to check it out via a DMV report. If it's there take care of it. If you don't, you might go on for some time, then one day when you're not looking, it'll jump up and bite you in the you know what.
You might even get hired on with a company, then a month later after all their stats on you are in, you could get canned, then have the reputation on your DAC report for "fired for with holding info."
Or, you could pull into a weigh station, get pulled around back for an inspection...and be put out of service for driving on a suspended lic.
Better to resolve the issue at home, prior to any of the above happening.

I'll give it a try. It might be a little difficult though, since I never had a California license to begin with.
I can only imagine how much the fine would be. I don't remember what violations were listed, but I do know that I was speeding, and didn't have a valid license, registration,or insurance. -
Chances it won't show up anywhere after 20 years. It definately WON'T show up on DAC. (you didn't have a CDL back then AND DAC redords don't go back that far) Contact the Courts where you got the ticket.
Jeffronic Thanks this. -
UPDATE:
Got the CDL and the job this Summer.
I tried to resolve the matter but CA couldn't find any info on it.
Thanks everyone.
