    Ok question folks.
Just got pulled over for speeding. Instead of a specific fine, was told to go see someone in city hall.
I am a CDL holder. I am currently working for the job that requires no CDL though (courier driver). Last time I was fined for speeding was 2006. Last time I had an accident - 2004. Last time I was fined for any moving violation was 2010.

Basically, I'm asking how ###### am I? Will this ticket compromise my hireability (word?) to drive nationwide? How about driving locally as an independent contractor on my own car with no CDL necessary?
    Thanks everyone for replies.

    OK, first off S L O W D O W N! (That is obvious, of course, but I just had to say it. . .):biggrin_25523:

It's going to depend on just how much over you get nailed for. What is this "go see someone in city hall?"

Whatever it is, get it taken care of. Whether you just pay it and move on, or do a not guilty plea, is going to be up to you and should depend on the circumstances. Really the question you ask, can't be answered until this is settled. At least for CDL purposes.

As an independent contractor, using your own car, unless there is more to this and you actually lose your license, the only thing it is likely to effect, is your insurance rate.

I had an "failure to yield" in November of 2010. My insurance rates went up by $15 and I was told I could not take classes due to the fact I had a CDL. I do not know how TX (in your profile it says DFW so I presume it means TX) is with tickets and taking classes for those that have CDL's. I would go to court dressed nicely and asked if possible for it to be reduced to a moving violation and maybe the judge will give you that and/or no points if he/she nice. Good luck.

Depending on how much over you were cited for, I would get a lawyer and make sure to go to court. There is a big difference between 10 over and 15+. Even getting it knocked down a bit will help.

I need all the time I got to work to make a good paycheck. The get-a-lawyer option sounds like serious money/time pit. I want this off my driving record, but not at the expense of losing 2 or 3 days worth of work.

Losing 2 or 3 days of work and spending cash for a lawyer may be better than seeing 13 over the speed limit on your record for the next 3 to 5 years.
