    So I had work done on my bat APu this week! Now when truck runs my meter goes to begging of the red mark without being keyed up. Can't hear out unless truck is off then meter drops to normal. Any suggestions

    Some of the coating on my cb wire the black one the coating is peeled off. Covered it with elec tape should I just replace it? They did run new wires to my bat APu

    The chances are that the bare wire was picking up static causing the needle to move at the same time as interfering with your SWR, which restricted reception.

    If you have bandaged the wire successfully and eliminated the problem you should be OK for an unknown length of time. You can get insulating sleeve from Radio Shack, they slip over the wires and using a hair dryer, will shrink over the wound making it as good as new.

    TruckerPete1990 Thanks this.

    We'll I replaced my power wire to cb it helped into my truck was started. Stopped at cb shop was told they can't help me at all. He said my APu is making noise causing this to happen. Thing is my APu can't run when truck is on. Guess I'll let our shop know about this next home time hope they fix...

    I agree with the CB shop - it isn't the radio, it surely isn't the power cord or anything else to do with the radio unless they messed with the antenna. I am incline to think that they changed a few things on the apu like cabling and the only way to figure out what they did is to get a complete breakdown of their work.

    To test if it will help, disconnect antenna from back of radio. Noise continues then yes its coming from pwr line.

    Seeing as this problem occurred after the APU was worked on it is possible that the internal frequency of the generator is working on a close frequency or skipping across to the CB or connecting wire acting as an antenna close to the APU. Or when they worked on the APU they did not insulate a wire enough which is in turn generating interference which is being picked up by your CB, speakers and or Antennas. Which is along the lines as I first posted.

    Possible remedies are;

    1. Move the Antenna further away from the APU.
    2. Check the speaker wires are insulated enough, if they aren't they could be acting as an Antenna.
    3. Use a heavier insulated power lead to the Battery, making sure there are no bare wires between the insulated part of the wire and the battery connector.
    4. Run a heavier insulated coaxial.
    5. Make sure the internal insulation on the APU housing is correctly fitted.

    I would appreciate knowing what the problem is/was, when its fixed.
