I'm looking at hauling some coal/coke. I started doing a little looking around the web and seen a lot of insurance company do not cover this type of work. I called OOIDA where I have insurance and sure enough they don't. I explained that this place unloads off of a bardge and there is no coal mine. The coal is put on a conveyor belt then loaded onto trucks. But it doesn't seem to matter. What Insurance Companies cover this type of loads in Illinois?

I checked with a few people I know in the insurance business and they came up empty as well. One idea I thought of is if you are at the terminals you could write down the name / DOT number of current companies that are hauling coal, look them up on SAFER. Once in SAFER go to the Active Insurance link and see what insurance company they are using. Typically there is a phone number but if not just google the insurance company, call the number, and tell them you are looking to be referred to an agent in IL that represents them. Just an idea - hope this helps!
