Just like any other segment of trucking, tanker work has good companies and bad. I sit sometimes for a day or two, but then get a good run to Chicago and back. Even when I lose 2 days in a week, I still gross over $1,000. On a good week, $1,400 is about average. It's not just the money though. It's how hard you have to work for it. Why beat your body to death on a flat topper, when you can get paid just as much, if not more, running a tanker?
Just like dry van having J.B. Hunt, Schneider, C.R. England, and the like, tankers have some companies to stay away from. Prime is a joke. Indian River is OK, with nice equipment, if you don't mind making peanuts for pay. I talked to Bynum Transport once. The nice guy on the phone told me "There's no way you are going to make $1,200 a week, without running illegal. We run 100% legal". That was all I needed to hear.
So far at Groendyke, $1,000 seems to be the average bad week, while good weeks can be as high as $1,400 to $1,600. Good weeks outnumber the bad weeks about 3 to 1. I feel bad for these guys running for dirt wages, because their company has them brainwashed that they are not going to do any better anywhere else.

I was a company driver and worked for a intermodel company, sometimes I would pick up JBHUNT loads and deliver them to the rail. After 6 years I had 3 weeks of vacation time and holidays off with pay. Sadly they allowed demoting and not enough miles at times. I hired on with JBHUNT intermodel in 2011, I found myself waiting for a vacation with no pay holidays and seeing the fleet hard at work on the holidays. What Jbhunt did right I mean their job description is almost accurate. I had been lied to abused too many times before bout when exactly am I coming home and for how long. In over a year jb I missed coming home on schedule once to due a lack of finding a empty. Description reads a 300 mile radius when at least one run is 420 miles to distination. Which is good only the state just south doesnt have any intermodel drivers in a well worn needing capital terminal. Mid week I would get sent on a smaller run in this state costing me $150 on my weekly check. Picking up jbhunt containers is a breeze compared to the well wornout common rail containers.
Later I came down with a medical problem costing me my leg below the knee not to mention job income. Now legally disabled I await on a prothesis. Jbhunt is on my list, I desire to become O/O and jb doesnt have a lease program for intermodel. -
I have seen guys with prosthetic legs out here . I have seen at least three in wheel chairs. Good luck getting that leg and getting back on the road.

I'm happy with Prime because the positives outweigh the negatives.
Others may disagree, but I'll only leave the company when I own my own truck, and then I'll be leasing to them. -
Don't trust any trucking company that's in the stock market. That's all you need to know. They couldn't give a rat's ### about truck drivers. They are only concerned that their stock holders make the green stuff. I worked for JB for 4 years before they completely abandoned their OTR division, in which case, at that time they were giving me and other OTR drivers around 700 miles a week to make us quit. I do find it surprising though how smaller companies aren't able to undercut JB regardless of what they pay their drivers since they have to pay a fortune to their stock holders. I work for Averitt now days and it's owned by one man. So all the profit goes mainly to him. It doesn't have to be split up so many times. Although even Averitt is starting to go to #### too though lol. But to be fair Sasser hired somebody from JB Hunt for operations lol.
