So, I go to orientation on Monday with Indian River Transport. Today I sprained my ankle or something along those lines. Needless to say, it hurts like a #####. My current medical card is good until Feb 2014, but I am assuming they are going to want me to take another physical. Should this pain be a problem with passing? I mean, I can still get in and out of the truck, and shift gears and such. Climb up the ladder to check the seals. I just don't know. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance drivers!

    mje Thanks this.

Trip when you walk in the door at orientation & yell, "Oh, I think I sprained my ankle! It's alright, I should be OK."

If an injury is bad enough they probably will not issue the medical card.

If you aren't mobile then you can't do a pre-trip, you couldn't tarp a load, you couldn't crawl under a trailer, etc.

Some doctors might sign off on you but not a doctor who represents the carrier who sent you for your pre-hire physical.

It is just an ankle, nothing that would stop me from doing my job. I am just hoping it heals beforehand. If not, I will see if I can get them to reschedule me a physical since mine is good until Feb. If need be, Ill go climb up and down the tankers if they want. I just know how these #### company appointed doctors act sometimes. It is crazy ####. Yet, you see 600 pound men out there that takes 15mins to climb into a truck. I just do not get it. Thanks for the input everyone!

It can mask another problem. A doctor is not simple-minded, he's not going to sign off on the statement that you're fit.

Because you're a PRE-HIRE and have no prior DOT long form. He's not going to sign off on you.

Ive got a long form valid to 02/14. transam pete, I didn't answer my own question, in fact, I value all of your answers. Question was did you think it would cause a problem at the physical.

Your ankle should be fine in a few days. No big deal, if you can walk ok.

    mje and FSU Thank this.

I'm not sure about Indian River but some companies give physicals and agility tests. If they do slide you on the physical hope you can pass the agility portion or they will send you home. The only one I ever did required walking with a 50 Lb weight about 20Ft and climbing in and out of a trailer. If you can do that on your bad ankle you'll probably be good.

    FSU and mje Thank this.
