New Medical Certification Requirements.VERY IMPORTANT

Wow, I can't believe some of you think its a bout money! There has already been posts stating that there will be many who will fail the physical. And that it is widely open to forgery by Dr shopping and buying forms to fill out yourself. As to the premise that its the Feds wanting to make mega bucks? It simply is not true. Yes Doctors will have to register to be a DOT accepted Dr, But I suspect that will be at State level via the medical review boards. The fee for the medical will probably increase, but the equipment required has to be purchased. The States don't provide equipment to 3rd parties and the cost is very expensive. To give you an idea our Driver License Camera cost $25,000. It was the only one we were allowed to use and only one company made them. Computers are to specific requirements with programs requiring secure links to MVD. Again it has to be paid for, will cost increase most definitely but then again those who abused the system are the reason for the changes.

Ironpony, your info for CO is inaccurate! New CDL holders or those renewing their CDL after 01/30/12 had to provide the medical card at the DMV to be copied but current CDL holders have until 01/30/14 to self certify. Also , if the medical card of record expires you are medically decertified after 10 days and after 30 days you lose all driving privileges---IT IS NOT downgraded! All you have to do is provide a new medical card to be reinstated but can you imagine some CDL holders might get a driving under suspension if caught! The Colorado Department of Revenue has a list of medical card FAQ under the CMV section but it is hard to provide a link to them. In the many threads on this subject , members from other states have mentioned different outcomes in their states.

 

Not surprising... I posted as a "fer example," not as "this is the straight poop!" I mean really, who has "straight poop??" If you got that problem, you don't need to be drivin' a truck... you need the Mayo Clinic. Quick!!!

Anyone who has a medical card valid on 1/30/12 had best get their skinny butt down to the DMV to show them that NEW medical card, because on 2/1/14 they'll be starting the process to stick it to ya! Self Certify?? What a load of BS! I'll tell ya now that's why I can't cite chapter and verse on this, because I'm extremely allergic to BS!

After getting my head full of that crap, it took at least a week and a heavy dose of Fat Tire to get it outta there! So I read and cogitated on the pertinent part of this little state-owned, federally mandated disaster, carefully avoiding any serious BS: They wanna see that you have a real med card, not one that your veterinarian chugged out when Fido got his anal glands expressed.

Downgraded? Decertified??? Sheez! Bad things are gonna happen if you stay under your rock too long with this one. Especially if that good ol' boy with the mirror sunglasses, smokey bear hat, badge 'n gun in Podunk USA happens to run your license AFTER you haven't been payin' attention! You might want to check your green book for what operating a CMV without a valid CDL will getcha! Besides no way to move that rig. And all of yer stuff and you on the side of the road!!

Yeah, well... speaking from experience, the process for getting a license back once it's been suspended in Colorado generally means starting at square zero. It's something you don't want to have happen to ya! And what the license examiners require, doesn't always square up with the rosey picture painted at the statehouse, downtown!

BTW, you can send or fax a copy of your medical card into the CDL unit of DMV. No need to go visit one of those wonderful little nightmares known as a DMV office. I think that self certify bull is just an excuse to git ya in there so they can torture ya a little!
