don't know about ddl and eclipse. but on trucklogger. you have to take the 2 FIRST. if you try to do an 8 first. you get red screened for not having the full 10.
your also limited to the amount of hours you can work. taking the 2 and 8 is easy. i have yet to figure out how it figures how many hours i can work on the next shft. cuz it seems to vary on what i work during the first 14 and at what point i do the 2.
30 min break workaround for otr

DDL allows in either order 2/8 or 8/2.

It amazes me how many hos programs botch the 8/2 split. Even qualcomm's qhos has a logic error: it exempts 8 & only 8 sb hours from the 14. Taking 9 hours in the sleeper will cost you 1 hour of 14 -- despite the regulation being quite clear that all sb time from 8-10 hours is exempt:
"(D) Must exclude from the calculation of the 14-hour period in §395.3(a)(2) any sleeper-berth period of at least 8 but less than 10 consecutive hours."25(2)+2 and Arkansas Frost Thank this. -
My Qualcomm only calculates it if I do the 8 first. If I do the 2 first my 14 just keeps ticking away.

The 2 counts against your 14. The 8 does not. Once you take the 8, the start of your 14 & 11 hour clocks will slide forward to the end of your 2.DoneYourWay Thanks this.

I guess what I am trying to get at is unless your logging software requires you to take the 2 first, where is the benefit of taking the 2 first? Since the 14 continues to tick away it does nothing to satisfy the 8/2 requirements as it does nothing to stop your clock. Once you take 8 in the sleeper you get your time back that was left over when you first when in sleeper, and again when you take your 2. But doing the 2 first does nothing to help you. As long as the load allows it or I feel like it, I randomly stop and take a nap or shower and the 2 has never helped me or calculated anything differently unless I already did the 8 earlier.

I guess there are cases where the split can help you out but it's not something I can see as beneficial to do very often, long term. And in my driving style just doesn't seem to fit as a means to save 30 minute breaks. I want to get to my end-of-day location ASAP before the parking is all gone, take the 10 and be done with it.

I take the 2 first if I come up on my 30 min break and have the time for it. I also use the split to change my driving time when delivery allows ie. I pick up a load at 1500 with 10 hours of drive time left. If I drive my full time I'm looking for a parking spot near midnight which as we all know isn't easy. But if I drive a couple hours and find a place to park for 8 hours I just adjusted my drive time so I start driving close to midnight and park in the morning.
As I said it's not for everyone. Me personally I have made good use of it when I can and it has worked well for me. Just figured it's an option that might also work for someone else that never thought of it.DoneYourWay Thanks this. -
Ever sat at a shipper for 2 hours being loaded? I have. New rules allow for logging that time as off duty, I've logged it in the sleeper and taken a nap till I hear pounding on my door. Now that 2 hours is not wasted time, it will reset your 14 after an 8 hour break.DoneYourWay, scottied67 and Lepton1 Thank this.

I see this as very beneficial. It will allow us to park the truck and let rush hour abate, then go through major metropolitan areas during the night. Every drive hour is valuable and I'd sure like to drive at 60 mph+ versus crawling in traffic. I think the OP and others have really enlightened me about how I might be able to work the system to my advantage, having options for running a route during fastest driving time.
