Yeah, the physical has me pretty worried as well. 31 years old and pretty out of shape. 5'7 and about 200 pounds. Wondering if I should wait an extra week or so before going out to their school and try to drop a few pounds.
mje Thanks this. -
You had plenty of time before. 0.o I will tell you will gain weight while driving I'd say about 10-20 lbs stay away from fast food eat healthy. For me it's hard cuz I hate salads. Xdmje Thanks this.

You can make the salads taste a lot better by adding salmon or tuna to the salads, mix them up with a healthy dressing, and enjoy them. Salmon, in particular, has a lot of the health omega 3 properties that have been shown to be healthy for your heart. Also, canned salmon is considered "wild" salmon from Alaska's salmon canneries.

You may want to go to a combination of a nutrition specialist and a physical fitness coach to help you SAFELY take off weight while simultaneously improving your health. I am guessing, depending upon your frame and body build, that you may need to take off anywhere from 40 lbs. to 80 lbs.. A professional who knows what he or she is doing would have to examine you and give you a more precise figure.
You may also want to have the individual help you with weight training, (NOT necessarily weight lifting), for good muscle toning. Some trucking companies do have minimum weight lifting standards ranging from 50 lbs. to as high as 120 lbs., (often for flatbeds), at least from what I have heard from other truck drivers, recruiters, and have read on the forum.
You want to MINIMIZE all chances of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, strokes, high cholesterol & triglycerides, along with potential kidney and liver problems.
If you are a smoker, try to give it up altogether or at least keep it down to a bare minimum. You do NOT want to ever come down with emphysema, or lung cancer. I have seen what it does to an individual. A person with emphysema actually CANNOT blow out a match when it is in the advanced stages.
Also, I suspect, "down the road", that both D.O.T. and the insurance companies will be cracking down hard on truck drivers who range from "slightly overweight" to "extremely obese". With them, it is a risk and safety issue.
Good luck to you!

I had my DOT physical just this past week. The doctor told me that starting in November of this year the DOT is cracking down on driver requirements. Drivers with high BMI will be given 6 month medical cards and if the dont show improvement they will not get any extentions. He also said all Doctors giving the test will have to take a class and be certified from the DOT to cut down on Doctors that sign the card for patients that dont qualify. He said the # of Doctors that will be certified will be much fewer than allowed to do the test now.
I dont know how true all that is, but thats what I was told... Glad I had no issues and I am working on my weight. Ive lost 35 pounds, eating better and walking 3-5 miles almost every day. I was 5-10, 250lbs but I am down to 215. Blood pressure was 118 over 71 at the physical!! Feeling great. Took a couple weeks to get used to eating more veggies and fruit and drinking water instead of chips, candy bars and diet soda. But now I am into it. I had a diet soda the other day for the first time in 2 months and almost spit it out it was so sweet. It was gross. Now its little lime or lemon in the water, makes it tasty! Carrots, bananas, granola bars, yogart, and apples are all good snacks.
I'm starting school in Oct 28th and I want to be at or under 200 lbs by the time I graduate on Dec 20th . That will be the 1st time I am under 200 in 14 years.mje Thanks this.
