Whole state of MN is that way. WI doesn't seem to mind the 10 million dollars they make on liquor tax off us each year.

I'm building a deer stand today.

Fisher--unless you find another small outfit, you will have to deal with a lot of changes if you want to make the switch to HH. For starters you will be on mileage pay with any of the larger carriers. Once you see their rates and the amount of deadheading they do you will probably be happy about this. I would also be prepared to sit quite a bit. For starters, you will normally be shut down from Noon Saturday through Monday morning with oversize. In addition, these companies will care more about having one of their customers' loads on your truck than keeping you moving. If that means you have to wait a day or two to be a part of a crane move, or for your machine to get done or to release from customs, that's life. I am sure all have lot of procedures, and you will be doing things there way. You will not be treated nearly as much like a contractor as you are at your current gig. Forget about having much (or any) input over what load you are on. Keen was already mentioned. ATS would be another option. I am not sure if Daily is hiring company drivers or not. If you are happy at your current gig, and making decent money, you may want to stay put. I think this sector is a little soft right now, there is definite over capacity, and I am not feeling warm and fuzzy about the next 6 months.

The boss and I were just discussing this last week. I'm most likely going to park the truck this winter for a month or two. I have some work lined up that I can come and go as I please, run my little side business and spend lots if time in my ice shack

    Logan76 Thanks this.

I have a close friend who won't even put a application in at a place if they don't have hoods. Silly head

The grass is always greener where the dogs are ########. HH is not for me. I like to shower at about 4 and duck into a rest area at round 11. Can't do that with 10 axles

    Logan76 Thanks this.

Well, I know I could NEVER do HH, only because they sit too much for me, I'm a mover and a shaker.

I like to be home at least on the weekends and they are gone for a few weeks at a crack...

I would love to have a local job, but there isn't any local jobs around here paying anywhere near what I make pulling this tanker around...

I run a 386 now, no hood at all, but I really like my truck and my boss ordered me a new one a few weeks ago, I picked out dark purple and a silver two tone paint job.

Fisher have you ever considered pulling a tank around? I make 26% and probably do 40% deadhead miles, but the loads pay more that it makes up for the dead head...I do food grade syrups only, and its a pretty easy job...

You are starting to scare me, since my new truck is now just a month away and I am likely moving up to 8 axle after the first of the year.

I'm a little concerned about the future as well. Mostly what were seeing is Americans cutting rates on stuff going to Alberta, which is the strongest market for Canadians. Guys that never wanted to or felt a need to cross that border found some good money even with a 25% rate cut.

I'm thinking if they are doing that, things must be really getting tight south of the 49th parallel.
