Well I thought I did my homework here, but I think I missed something. I have a 06 Corn binder 9400i, and yes it has that Bull#### all-in-one antenna system. I didn't want to make any modification since it is a company truck, but I think that might be out of the window to save my CB. At first, I bought a used Cobra 29 lx chrome limited edition that was peak and tuned, noise canceling mic, and since I don't know how to tune an antenna, I went with a francis pre-tuned 4ft. And yes I did ask my CB guy about having a good antenna, and was told it's personal choice. This was also before I found out I had the all in one system. Now this is my first CB, and I went with the advice I got here. The first CB had more problems that I thought, so I took it back and got a brand new in the box and had it Peaked and Tuned. The problem I have is my SWR's and sometimes it is not clear or can hear the guy I just passed on the ol' chatter box. On Ch 20, I'm like 1.2, on ch 40, I'm over 2, around 2.3ish range. Now on ch1, I'm in the same area, 2.3ish maybe a little higher and I get a message on the display of an "Antenna System Warning." I'm afraid to key up because I don't want my $200 investment to go up in smoke! I replaced the stud since the other look like it was done for but still have the same problem.

So the Question is, what do I need to to do? Is duel antenna really worth it? Do I really need 18ft of new coax? Yes someone nut at a cb shop just the other day told me I need 18 to 19 ft of coax even thought a lot of you say you don't. Just needing the best advice to be heard!!

    Thanks in advance

No you dont need 18 ft of coax. That's one of the age old myths for CB. 18 ft of coax is a bandaid for people who can't tune an antenna. Whoever told you having a tuned antenna is a personal choice, clearly knows NOTHING about anything radio related. A tuned antenna is mandatory if you want the radio to live and if you care about getting out past 50 ft. from the cab.

Sounds like whatever antenna you bought is narrow banded as you say on 20 you have a good SWR and on 1 and 40 you have a marginal SWR. While 2.3 isn't bad, it's not really good either. Most good CB antennas are a little more wide banded. Heck the CB dipole I built and tuned yesterday is more wide banded. lol.

I'd personally replace everything with a Wilson 1k antenna and enough RG8X to get the antenna to the radio. Then tune for a 1.5:1 on channels 1, 19 and 40.

Also dual antennas are best on semis but for cars, pick ups, etc. a single antenna does the same job, is easier to tune, etc. Why so many pick ups run duals trying to emulate semis is beyond me, other than ignorance.

Thanks Turbo, the antenna I bought is a "4 foot Francis CB 24 hot rod antenna." It says 150 watts on it. I don't think that the Wilson 1k will work in my application. I think I need to go with the Wilson 2k. Which would you recommend, the 5" or 10" shaft? Also I might be stuck buying 18ft because I think that's all I've seen at the t/s with the removable connector so I can route it through the door without pinching or kinking the cable. Unless you know where I can get just 9 ft to do the same. Since this is a tractor-trailer, should I go ahead and fo with duel antennas to maximize my range.

Sorry if I got you confused on the type of truck I have. Im not a fan of international (everyone that I been in has broke down on me), but the sleeper is a Hilton compared to the pete 385 that I started in. So for now until something better comes along, I guess I have to be a fan.
