Seems like a simple Question ...
I am trying to figure an estimated weekly income/budget sheet and need a realistic flatbed Gross rate per mile to determine weekly gross income.
I plan on driving for Landstar either Flatbed or StepDeck so I know my percentage of line haul will be 73%.
I am also using 2,500 miles for my weekly average. I know with flatbed it can be more or less than that, but that's what I averaged last year.
Right now I have used both $1.85/per mi AND $2.00/per mile but I'm just wondering if someone out there can give me a solid Dollar/per mi. that is a realistic, typical amount.
Thanks !!!!!
Solid Average Flatbed gross rate per Mile ????

is there a SOLID average?
-
Sure... one that is realistic
I can dream about $3 -$4 /per mi loads all the time, but they don't help me figure out a budget that works.
Thanks!! -
A rocket scientist can tell you how far it is to Mars, a heart surgeon can figure out to transplant a heart. But there is no solid answer to your question.Too many variables in this business, you need to compare apples to apples, and oranges to oranges.
Now I am sure someone will argue this point, but unless you can provide more info [economic conditions as rates will vary, lanes willing to run, type freight you will load, length of haul you like, etc.], the answer will just be a general idea.No 2 deals are alike.
I think you can probably get a close idea from those leased to Landstar, but no guarantees. -
If you are doing a hypothetical budget wouldn't it make the most sense to use the lowest rate per mile that would net you a profit? If you can work a budget with the least amount possible then it stands to reason that you would use any monies over that amount more efficiently.

there is no solid average.

So maybe I should rephrase my question.
Are there any O/O flatbed drivers out there willing to take a minute to figure out what their average gross $/per mile has been for 2013? And if your are willing to figure it out, would you please post it here?
Thank You -
OK, you passed the first test as an O/O. Willing to change to meet the conditions.Circumstances dictate procedure. If you can't get an answer to one question, jump back in with another. If you can't get the load you want, take another.
Good luck. -
I can't tell you for the whole year because my cpu crashed in June and my dumb butt didn't have anything backed up. But what I can tell you is that my driver that operates my flatbed on the west coast averaged $2.22 and $2.23 for July and August Probably about 1/3 was tarped and no O/D. That is also for all miles ran period end of story. Also that was with the driver pretty much getting home whenever he wanted with in reason. Point being the average could be hire if I could have just chased the money around instead of having to take what was available to get him home. That was also just running off of load boards. For me my average didn't drop to $2 until Jan-March, but it never averaged below $2. Also that average is an all in rate, nothing has been taken out. Last thing he averages between 9-11k miles per month, it all depends on how much he wants to drive. I'm sure others make more but that's what my numbers are for August and July
VLSanders2013 Thanks this. -
My contractors are making 1.75-1.95/mi this year at 68% pulling my trailer. They average around 2000 miles a week, and are home 1.5-2 days per week. Our main lanes are MN, WI, IA, IL, MI, IN, OH, PA, MD, NY, GA & FL. Average length of haul around 400-500 miles. 20% of loads are up to 12' wide (mostly 8.5-10').
I would suggest you post more specific information about how you would like to run. There are certainly people on the forum that could give good information if you provide more.SHC Thanks this.
