I have to disagree with you and lets back up for one minute, a couple years back walmart went to implement a cell phone policy and all the drivers complained saying exactly what you are. You should trust us we are professionals, grown men blah blah blah. so walmart said ok we will not put it in place we trust you. so what happened ? through the next year they had double digit accidents involving drivers on cell phones costing walmart MILLIONS of dollars. Nice way to prove your trust right ?

I would prefer my stock and 401k to be worth more then throwing money away in court for dummies wrecking while talking. They had to do something and the policy is really very liberal. It would not change my mind for one second in regards to accepting the job. Turn down a six figure job because of a very lenient cell phone policy dont think so.

and then you mention freedom... I dont know how much more freedom a guy could want they never bother you for nothing. I can work my whole week and not talk to a single person other then a coordinator handing me my paperwork. I left the dc Thursday and have not been back since made almost 400 dollars every day this week. dang I got it rough someone pinch me wake me up.

just my two cents dont take it personally

I agree with you grabber. You do your job, you don't screw up, and they leave you alone. The only time I am talking to someone is paperwork, and if there is a screw-up on something. I personally think the phone policy is very liberal, also.

You can work as hard as you wish here, but as long as you are doing your job and not messing around or messing up, they do not micro manage you at all. Case in point, a driver who had many hard brakes. They were never his fault (imagine that). Yes, he did get talked to. However, that situation was an accident just waiting to happen, so he needed to be talked to. There is nothing they dislike more than a driver not owning up to what he has done. I had a hard brake within a couple of months of starting, but it was my fault for not anticipating the light changing. I'm not too big of a man to admit my error, and correct it. Haven't had one since.

Same here on the accident thing. None of them have been big, but the vast majority have been for not paying attention, and could have been avoided. I think you just run into a certain contingent of driver who can't stand change, and in their mind change is always for the worse. Again, the vast majority have forgotten from where they came. Sometimes I think it would do them good to quit, and go try the "real" world again. Maybe they would realize just how good they had it. Of course, maybe not. LOL

Not sure what there is to disagree about,I gave first hand information backed up with information that came from some very reliable sources within the private fleet. I think you will see in time that things are going to continue to change not so much for the worse but they will change. This change is going to be driven by the private fleets need to keep its driver ranks fully staffed. Just ask a few of the guys on the top row at your DC how much the job has changed.

Let me adress the freedom issue so those that might be thinking about making a move over to Walmart have the facts. I remember thinking the same thing about never having anyone bother me all week. You make valid points about freedom and private fleet drivers do enjoy more freedom than other company drivers but you have to admit you are being watched very carefully. You cant lead people to believe that your just out doing your thing all week without any supervision. Your watched at the DC,on the road,at stores, clubs and at vendors. We all know that Bentonville takes driver reports from members of management very seriously and I know of at least one driver that lost his job based on a call in from a store manager. Your day is planned by the ROC based on your available hours, location and the amount of equipment in the region this information is put together based on your every drivers moves in that region being watched. Everytime you touch that qualcom your being watched and soon I hear it may be watching you, literaly.

anyone driving a truck with a obc is being watched. they can watch your every move from a computer screen. I dont have a problem being observed on the road or on walmart property. They pay me dearly to represent them in a professional manner all the time and thats what I do. I have had 4 road ops reports left in my mailbox and all where positive thanking me for doing a great job. I threw them in the trash and the safety director saw me and said whats wrong they where all good. I said yes as they should be i dont need anyone thanking me for being safe all though appreciated thats what you hired me to do.

every company will go through changes if not they are not growing or improving. All changes may not be for the better in our opinions all the time.

Approaching 1 year and a six figures I am very pleased with every aspect of my job. Not trying to mislead anyone seeking employment here just stating the facts based on my experience so far. Not saying its perfect neither no job is but its pretty close.

Hi guys, just a quick question if you ca help me out. If I submitted an application in late July for a DC and was never called or notified by email about my application, is it possible to be called for a job yet? I'm curious cause I see the job was reposted last week and am thinking I wont be called. Thanks for any help

Walmart will notify you regardless, either by phone or by mail. Depending on when the position you applied for was removed from the Walmart website (they stay online for 28 days), yes, it is possible they have not called anyone from that batch of applicants yet, but should be doing so soon.

    BFL123 Thanks this.

Thanks Tom, I figured if I wasn't called and the DC reposted the job for drivers, that meant that I wasn't selected. But from what you say, I guess I have a chance till I'm notified one way or another. Thanks again

If you really wish to know the status of your application, drop an email to the recruiting department in Bentonville at drivingjobs@wal-mart.com. This way you will know for sure.

    BFL123 Thanks this.

You hit the nail on the head and helped to make my point with the first paragraph.
