We live in FL and are based out of Lebanon, TN... Daytona45 lives in the south as well..... We are both rookies and have been in the snow and ice all winter. If you go OTR, believe me you will see plenty of snow and ice. Just take it slow and steady and if the weather gets too dangerous to drive, shut it down till the weather improves. You can also join us in bit**ing about it here LOL.
Have to start somewhere

So here I sit at mac steel at Ft Smith I had an 2330 appt.and it is midnite and the guy with the 9 pm appt is ahead of me I will be here all night.I deliver in Hunnington In on the 22 at 4 am. So on friday I will be empty and about 700 miles from home.Looks like I wont get home till saturday. I hate this middle of the night b.s. but it is there world what can you do.
I delivered in Tulsa this afternoon and then I sat at the flying j ate me some dinner before they deadheaded me to Ft Smith so everything ran like I thought it would. You realy spend a lot of time just waiting. You realy need a lot of patience for this job.
I will pull into the maverick yard across the street and sleep if I ever get loaded I am pretty sure if you asked all the maverick drivers the one place they dislike loading out of this would be it.At least i can shower and shave in the morning.
When you pull in here you check in on the c.b.He said they where running behind I wanted to say arent you always but I kept my mouthshut.
Macsteel got bought out by ameristeel sometime ago and now they are slower then they where before.I didnt think you could improve on that but they have.I always remember what Bill told me once "most people stop looking for work the day they find a job" this place is a prime example of that.If they wanted to do less they would have to stop breathing. This place is amazing trucks go in but no one comes out maybe they are putting it on bar by bar.Later -
So I got loaded at 330am by the time I was all secured it was 4am..I am in Madison Il. now we have a yard here.I took the courtesy car to the subway and got some dinner I am dog tired my sleep schedule is shot and trying to stay one step ahead of the bad weather I got 33 hours to drive 300 miles so tommorow will be an easy day if the weather cooperates. Will post more later.

Caught in ice and rain in Madison Il.dont know what to do I will sit here til the roads are clear. They may be good enough for those with experience but not for this dumb rookie will wait it out. If they fire me for being late with this load then so be it but at least I didnt wreck the truck or hurt nobody. I have realy painted myself in a corner with this probation stuff but better to be safe then sorry.I know I am in probably ok in the big truck but the four wheelers are slipping and sliding and all I need is for one of them to run into me.They just showed a big fed ex truck stuck on the get on ramp on the news does not make me want to get out there anybody know when spring comes?Wish me luck later

Hey Daytona, I've enjoyed reading your thread alot. I'm a 50 something who has decided to give trucking a try as a carreer change. Got a little burned out troubleshooting machinery in LA, moved to Az and built a new house here in the desert. Plan to attend a Sage school at the local CC this spring. Your comments and those of others on this board have given me a good idea of what to expect. Much appreciated. Oh, and it snowed here last night, if that makes you feel any better. LOL
Be careful out there. -
Snow in az then this is just like home. Well I drove to indy and I shut down I am only two hours away. Will deliver in am it will be late but I aint driving in this stuff at night that is way above my skill level. On the way here I passed three big trucks and numerous cars in the ditch. It got better as the day went on.I should of started earleir or pushed through the day before oh well live and learn I didnt wreck nothing or put it in the ditch so it was a good day.Later

Any day where no one gets hurt and nothing gets broke is a good day! Like Clint Eastwood (I think it was him) said, "A man's got to know his limitations." Sounds like you're getting to recognize yours, and the experience will help you to grow them. Be safe!

Daytona thanks for documenting all your expieriances that you have been going through, from the start of school to your latest report they have been very informing and interesting.I too am considering entering the trucking industry after being in the printing industry all my life.I can't decide whether to go to a private school or take the training offered by Schneider I have read many posts regarding this and I still haven't decided yet.Anyways keep up the reports they are great!
