This question came to me yesterday and I was curious on what the best transmission to train with? And when ur on the open road what's best?? Can anyone tell me please? I would appericate it!!!

Super 10 for a beginner and an 18 for the open road. The super 10's are hard to tear up, perfect for noobs, and the 18 is best in all situations IMO.

Hmmm super 10? Which trucks have them? And beside 18 tranny what else is good for the open road??

Mostly large fleet trucks from what Ive seen online. The 379 I drove had one and it was an ex Thomason truck. 13 speeds are good too, so are 10. Really just depends on what the truck is used for. I personally like the 13 & 18.

I see .. because I always wanted to learn to shift and do it well.. just nervous about it. Where will I learn this better : school or on the road?

Normally students don't have a choice. These big training companies usually have 9 speed or straight 10's. Super 10's use to be popular but I see less of them today. Super 10's are good to learn because they will help you learn a 13 or 18 easier later on. But a 9 or straight 10 is more common and what is most students encounter. Of the less geared ones I like the straight 10. Heck I like them all.

What you don't want is to learn on is an automatic. That limits future employment opportunities. Learn to shift with a trainer and you can step in an automatic later. Start in an automatic and you'll be back to square one grinding a manual without a trainer.
School will teach you just enough to get your CDL. Your real training begins when you go out with a trainer. You'll sweat bullets at first but quickly become accustomed to it. It takes awhile to master smooth shifting so don't get discouraged. It will come with practice. By the time your training is done you'll be able to upshift fairly decent and still have problems here and there downshifting with a lot of grinding in the process. The more you do it the less missed shifts you will have. Before you know it you'll be shifting by sound and not even thinking about it. The transmission you have in the training truck is the best one to train on.
The transmission in the truck your new company gives you to drive is the best one to drive with.
OHH and it gets better, what if you have to drive 5 different trucks with 4 different transmissions all in the same week?
Your not going to get to pick what you drive so don't worry about it, you'll figure it out after you nick off a few teeth. -
Some here say super 10 which was the hardest for me because of that splitter.
