Mostly just practice the more you do it you'll discover little tricks to stay cleaner. I used to like bib overalls because I found them cooler in the summer than coveralls. In cooler weather I favoured shop coats. Also unless I was hauling lumber I tried to roll the tarps up on the trailer or paid attention to the ground where I was rollling up tarps(meaning no mud)

While I was tarping my last load I noticed I just get into it too much. With me being new I'm just trying to get the job done as quick as I can because im pretty slow at it still. How long does it usually take you veterans to tarp a load? I think the quickest load I've tarped took me 3 hours. I think I spend too much time bungee'n it down or something. I wish I was faster at it.

Time depends on height, lenght, and what your are tarping down. Everybody is slow tarping at first. Then if your like me, slow after several years.
Some machinery takes longer because of having to put padding under the tarps and corners.
How good your tarping is shows up a few hours down the road. A good tarp job, will not flap, which is better on the tarps.
Now you'll start noticeing good and bad tarp jobs as you drive down the road.

Smh....do some push ups...don't carry the tarps up against your body, properly fold your tarps, and learn to move around your load and not crawl all over it...the only problem I had was sweating not getting dirty...and its not a race the longer you do it the more efficient you will be...visualize how you want the tarp job to look...lay out your equipment and follow steps in your mind...time and pratice is all you need

You need to be keenly aware of where the dirt is and keep it AWAY from you. After the service, I worked in a gas station, pumping gas, changing oil/tires etc. I actually stayed pretty clean, so much so, that people would remark to me if I worked in the office only. How is it possible to be so clean at the end of the day ? Same goes with tarping, keep those grubby tarps away from your body.

Tarping is not hard but it is dirty. That is flatbed work and keeps most of the overweight drivers out of this field. Untarping sucks and is usually when I get dirty or put my coveralls on.

that's one thing I pride myself on doing is a good tarp job. it bugs me to death to see a flapping tarp especially if its mine. I guess you learn to do a good job, then do a fast job, then do a good and fast job. I'm just too impatient I want to do it good and fast now not later.

Get a large sleeper with a shower, then after tarping you can take a shower before rolling down the road.
That's what I do. Though I still don't like to tarp.

I think it also helps to fold up your tarps on the trailer when possible.

Same here, but sometimes, no matter what I do, that stupid thing flaps in the wind taunting me :biggrin_25510:
