Hey guys, didn't realize people were still following this, I'll try to update more frequently.

So yeah, things have been going well for me at KKW. I keep pretty busy, I've had a couple of short work weeks so far but I've spent that time at home instead of at a truck stop. I've been home every weekend so far with the exception of my first week solo. Very friendly people over here at this company, always helpful and ask how I've been whenever I get to Pomona.

The truck I have is very nice, plenty of room inside in my opinion. It had 67 miles on it when I started on my first run, it has well over 7000 now. I recently bought myself one of those 300 watt power inverters you see at the truck stops. I use it to watch movies in my laptop at night. I'm still in the market for a cooler you can plug into a cigarette lighter.

I would defently recommend this company to anyone who wants to work at a smallish company and run the western states. I have only a couple small complaints. The first being that sometimes I have to wait on hold for a while to talk with a dispatcher, but I guess that can be a problem at any company. Another problem is sometimes I get the wrong information sent to me on the computer system. Once I was given the wrong time to deliver, another was the wrong date (I was there a day early and they wouldn't take the load), and just the other day I was sent to the wrong address. When I've had these problems the dispatchers were always helpful in getting it sorted out. Another thing is that I wish our yard was bigger in Pomona, most of us drivers go home on the weekends and trying to find a parking spot when I get there usually at night on Friday can be a problem. I recently started parking my car in a spot where I can park my truck, I just swap them out when I'm ready to leave.

So if anyone is interested in working here at KKW shoot me a PM and I'll give you my information. I like being as helpful as I can, keep the questions coming!

My husband has been driving for KKW for over a year and is a trainer. We both love the company! Great family environment.

No, most of our trucks are manuals. The new Volvos are automatic like mine.

Volvo has made the I shift standard with the Volvo engine. If you want a Volvo with a Volvo engine and manual transmission, you have to special order it. Our D13/I shift trucks are getting 8mpg or better. Volvo seems to have worked out the bugs with the I shift as its been used in Europe/Australia for years. The Aussies really push them running them on those 9 axle B trains and 2-3 trailer road trains. They seem to hold up to that heavy duty work.

Hey Bonchez...great posts man! I have applied with KKW just last Monday. I've been dealing with Gina in recruiting. She states she will try to get me a road test by Thursday or Friday. I have a question...when you failed the road test did anyone give you a particular reason or area in which you failed? Any info would be helpful and thanks again for the previous updates. I noticed you haven't posted anything for a month. Is everything still cool?...or did something happen that prevented you from continuing your updates? Thanks again and be safe.

Took my road test with KKW today. Not bad at all. Been about 5 yrs since I touched a 53'. Been driving double bottom-dumps hauling aggregate for concrete companies. We used a 10 speed Volvo for the test. As with driving any "different" truck I scratched a few gears myself. I asked the trainer (Tim) what he wanted...double clutch or float. He said float em in. I floated some and double clutched others. I figured better impression to double-clutch than scratch the gears. He didn't seem to mind too much. I just kept the truck between the lines and scanned the mirrors ALOT! Before I knew it, he said pull into this large industrial area. He asked how I felt about backing. I told him I'd be happy to try. (Remember..I haven't backed up a 53' in 5yrs). I had to pull up a couple times but I got it done without hitting anything. At first he said we'll try backing into "this dock" and then "that dock". When I bumped the dock like a butterfly with blisters he said forget the other dock and lets head back to the terminal. After scratching the gears and a few pull-ups to back up...I guess he had enough to evaluate my skills. Anyhow...we get back to the yard and says "wait right here" as he proceeded to the recruiters office. Maybe 45 seconds past and he walked by and said "see ya later". My recruiter "Gina" followed him and told me that he was impressed and that I would only need about a week of training as opposed to the 2 or 3 that Gina had talked about. Background went through ok, DMV went through too. She just mentioned one problem...my next to last company could not be contacted to verify my employment because they were bought out by my last employer. She said she would try to get my app approved BUT.....I should do my best to produce tax W-2 forms to make the process a lot smoother. I'll look for them tomorrow and either take them to her or fax. So far it looks promising. Guess we'll see in a few days.

Almost forgot ...for those who might be concerned about KKWs road test. NO pre-trip....NO Air-Brake test either....just a walk around....I did have to hook up to a trailer. Other than that pretty easy I'd say. Even for someone fresh out of school. OH.....here's a tip...the guy that gave me my road test DID SAY that he was very glad that I GOT OUT AND LOOKED (GOAL) before attempting my back up to the dock. Just a hint of what they may be looking for.

Do you know anything about M Bojrn Peterson Transportation in Glendale. A driver in Maryland posted he was offered a job with them. Website looks pretty good.
