You've been running hard, bumping up against your recap for days. You have 4 hours before you hit 70 and a hurricane is coming to town. What do you do?

your in LA, just put in 11, got empty and you're on your 10. Everything's gone to hell, and the locals are throwing the biggest bonfire since Rodney took his whipping by the LAPD. What do you do?

some drivers never get asked by dispatch to do something questionable. Some do all the time. Why is that? How do they know who they can bully around and those they can't. Even as a company driver 20 years ago, I would tell the desk jocks to go intercourse themselves. What are you going to do...fire me? Is that it? Heres your truck. If I break the law, it's for me.

Took a 10 hour out west a few years back. The weather was going to hell and I was in a pickle park. What do you do? GET THE HELL OUTTA THERE!!! Stay there and the snowplows will block you in. The safety men started calling, "You violated this and this". So what? If I sense danger, I'm outta there, #### the laws. But, I'm not breaking the laws for anyone else.

"But what if you hit someone while you were driving illegally?"

In a disaster area, there is no ' What ifs'. Stay in a pickle park during a blizzard, you will get blocked in by the snowplows. Stay in a riot area, you will get attacked.

Yes, I know...macho Supertrucker talk. You wanted to hear, "Call the DOT! Call th labor board! Hire a lawyer!" What for? If they want to fire me, that's fine. I will pull their stickers off my truck, and have another job before I can get back inside the truck and put her in gear.

Your right Giggles, I'm guilty too,but like someone said before on here, those days are gone. I think we can all agree,we are really trying, but dispatchers and Ops are in La La land! It's everyday they try and try and try to get me to do something that will cost ME points, tickets. I refuse, they get pissed, and around and around we go. (Of course I'm a ##### bc I refuse ANYTHING that will damage my equipment or cost me any citation. I wish the "folks" that are making all the regs would finally crack down on lazy arse shippers, receivers, and operations.

I think truck drivers do their very best, but we can't do it all,we need support from the top. And thus far we aren't getting it.:biggrin_25512:

you'll never get it from the top. as long as the truckers that know how to truck. retire and the newbies come and take their place and screw up like a lot of newbies do.,

when i first started. there were more veterans then rookies. now, the tables have drastically changed. i'm guessing that 75% of all OTR truckers. have less then 5 years experience.

all the accidents i read about back home. haven't been driving very long.

sit down for a meal. you'll be able to pick the 2 patrons that have been driving their whole life. out of the 50 patrons that are eating. not hard to see or tell that the other 48 haven't been driving very long.

They did a survey on that one time..It was like 14% with 20 + years..From 0-3 years was like 78% and the rest was 3-20 years...

I dunno bout that, there's quite a few that's been out here a long time and they're the 1st to agree to do something illegal. It's disgusting, had one driver (same place I'm at) he says " just run that scale if there's no D.O.T car there. Really? He said he does it all the time. (35 yr Vet) I'm sorry I have responsibilities and "ain't no way" I'm putting my neck out for any carrier!!! Just ain't happening. The sad part is I see them teaching this to the younger fellas. And they do exactly what they tell them to do bc the vets are doing it. So of course they "expect" me to follow suit. Not now,not ever is my offer. So I guess I'll just be the ##### that is not a team player. So I guess it's ops ,and like the O.P. said, aren't they just as concerned as we are? Wouldn't they be,bc it's their scores too. I don't get it really. They cry about their scores with one side of their mouth and expect you to outlaw on the other side of their mouth. UGH!:biggrin_25521:

They may not have a car there, but they sure do have a two way radio. I hear law stopping port runners all the time on I-15 in St. George.

I'm also wondering if that so called "veteran driver," was just jerking your chain. . .some folks are just plain ornery and will say something like that to see if they can get somebody else in trouble.:biggrin_25513:

Nah,he's really that ignorant. Im just not the right profile or personality to try and b.s.and he understands that. It's understood. I've seen him run something overweight, maybe missing a lic.plate light, and just roll with it. He actually thinks that the company will stand by him, really? This carrier doesn't like anyone calling them on things,or letting them know something is illegal.

I can't imagine "running a scale" I mean who does that? So I guess there's just all kinds out here, but I know 80% really try to be the best we can and protect our records. Those kind of drivers are on borrowed time is all.:biggrin_25520:

I know a woman bartender workng in a place where the wealthy hang out. They have some type of whiskey that is $100.00 a shot. The wealthy buy that stuff trying to impress girlfriends & each other. Many married guys trying to impress the mistress. When the club closes each night, she refills the $100.00 a shot bottle with cheap whiskey, sometimes the cheap stuff is under $10.00 a fifth. The people buying the $100.00 a shot don't know the difference. Pretty good profit.
