If you're on direct deposit, close your bank account before you quit. They can and will take a deposit back out of your account. Most people's knee-jerk reaction to that statement is that they can't do that. That's exactly what I thought until these clowns did it to me. Call your bank and ask them.fr8te_sh8ker Thanks this. -

Yes, it does sound illegal. I thought it was. Like I said, call your bank and ask them if a company can do that.
My assigned truck was damaged when I got it. I had the damage documented. When I quit, I turned in all my equipment and had a signed receipt. When I quit, it was payday and my direct deposit was in the bank. The next day, the bank called and said I was overdrawn because my direct deposit was reversed. When I finally received a final paycheck for my last two weeks, there was a bill for over $600 for the same preexisting damages and for the equipment I returned. When I told them I didn't owe that money and I had the documentation to prove it, the idiot laughed and said, "So sue us." So since it would have cost me more than $600 to go from Indy to S. Sioux City to get my money back, I just had to eat it. And S. M. knew it. -

Well I guess there is a diplomatic way to part ways, and then there is the way you did it! Did you leave them under a load? did you give notice? I'm sure there was something that made them mad?
They are a business, they run on a very narrow line of profit, I know outside looking in they are making money hand over fist, Who do you think pays for all of their operating expenses? Like flying a driver in to Orientation and then sending said driver back home because their Blood pressure is to high? Who pays the secretary who tries very hard to get the payroll right every week? Who pays for the maintenance on the trucks? Who pays for the up keep of the ofice they are paying to have space to operate this business? They do, after they shave off 20-35% of their profit to pay you to take a load from point A to point B but there expenses are not set, they have IFTA to pay and every other agency who has their hand in the pot! And then you expect them to take the dent in stride for a mistake you made? That isn't the way business runs, the owners get paid the least of everyone there. But yet they still show up and flick the lights on everyday! they sign the checks because they are basically kissing their money god bye! But it is their name o the side o the trucks and trailers they are still trying to pay for! Oh you ask how do I know this? I have owned my own business at one time in that business I had 65 independent contractors working for me doing what I did, I signed the checks going out for all of those expenses, I had my business name on the door, I paid the power bill and the girl up front answering the phone and taking applications and transferring to me the customer that was mad about the mix up in their service till she could butt in and get the customer to hold and then I talk them into staying with us and we will deduct a certain percentage off that weeks bill because we value this customers business, So I know how this runs, it isn't easy running any kind of business and if the owner(s) are not right there to head the pack then the pack gets off course and they starting going in a direction that may not be good for the business and may not be able to get it turned around! So why don't you think you should have paid for this damage? Because you work there and they should just expect their equipment to get messed up and run into poles on a regular basis or should they charge it back to you because you caused this to happen! I wish you well man but you need to take some responsibility for your actions. Good Luck!pattyj Thanks this. -
I currently have my own trucking business. I am very well aware of the costs of doing business in this industry. Thank you for listing the obvious though. No, I didn't quit under a load. No, I didn't give notice. Are you saying that because I wasn't diplomatic enough, that gives them the right to charge me for damages they know I didn't cause? Is that the way you ran your business?
I don't need your condescending good luck wishes. I make my own. Thanks anyway though.average joe Thanks this.
