Not sure where to post, but here goes. This is a question for small fleet owners. What type of workers comp rate are you paying currently? I know it varies state to state, but i just want to see what others are paying. Also, how long did it take for your rate to drop assuming your claims were limited? Thanks

Depending on your state there are a minimum amount of employees before you are required to have workers comp. I know some states you can have 1,2, 5 employees and be exempt. Truck drivers are at a higher rate level like 10-12% in most states. Many companies reduce the amount paid by using forced per diem to lower the driver's gross.

I was leased to a NC based company this year. I was paying $411 per month for workers comp on their plan.
I checked into leasing to a GA based company. Their workers comp is about $296 / month.

Typically like CC said in the $10-$12 per $100 of payroll range - meaning at the $10 per $100 rate you would pay about $4,000 a year in WC for a driver making $40,000. Also if you just have a couple of employees your state may exempt you. In GA if you have more than 3 employees you have to start carrying it.

I have a small fleet as well. The down payment was $4300, There is no outside financing allowed, They bill you directly, quarterly. I have not received the first quarterly bill yet. Hope this helps.

You have to do your time in the "risk pool" and then you can try to get it privately. No claims and it can be 1/3 of the pool cost.
