I am based in Calif. and would like to know what states I can transfer my CDL to, without taking the driving test. I will likely need to move my business out of Calif. to avoid CARB forcing me out. I would like to stay in the 7 western most states. Does anyone know if any of these western states make transferring a CDL possible without all the testing?

All states will transfer a CDL without requiring retesting so long as your license is current. Some states may require a written test on the components of a C class license such as local traffic laws and road requirements.
When I transferred my CA CDL to OR I had to take the class C portion of the written test, but when I transferred it to TX, I just paid the money and smiled for the camera.areelius Thanks this. -
Thanks Emulsified; that is what I was hoping to find out. Sounds like there may actually be something left that the politicians haven't made as difficult as they can. This gives them something to do now.

Come on over to Nevada so you don't have to pay personal state income taxes. Same in WY,TX, WA.

Illinois makes you take the driving test again

What about Idaho?

Nobody ever moves to Idaho so they don't have a plan.

Another state that has little info on CDL transfers. The best I can piece together is you have to take the written and not the skills test. The medical card program is in effect and one has to start over with the hazmat process. -
Aye TX. Dont do any moves until a month before it expires. Good luck sir

I don't think any states require another driving test. I've transferred my CDL from Missouri to Florida to Ohio and then back to Florida again lol. Only test I had to take each time was hazmat. Florida to Ohio did not require another background check, but Ohio to Florida did. When carrying my endorsements (I have all of them) from Ohio back to Florida I did not need to take any of the tests or pay anything extra to keep them.
When I applied for a job here I gave them my Florida CDL and my CSA profile only showed an inspection I had back when I had the old Florida license before moving to Ohio. It didn't show my Ohio speeding ticket (in a truck). It also didn't show a ticket for blowing past an old chicken coop in the middle of nowhere in New Mexico with my old Missouri license.
Just my two cents. -
Emulsified and Oi!,,
I realize the OP is just checking for Western states, but just a FYI to backup transam pete's earlier post & let you and others know that ILLINOIS requires all tests (written, skills, AND road) to be taken on all out of state CDL transfers. Just like you never even had a CDL to begin with.
