new to this site and the thread. alot of good info on here. i just retired from the military and i am currently in CDL school. Groendyke has a terminal in Lake Charles down the road from where i live. they were the first company i started looking into when i was deciding to start this career, mainly cause i drove tankers for seven years in the army, about ten years ago.
Some other companies are in on the apprentaship program through the VA where i can use my GI Bill and i am interested in them due to getting the extra money during training and when i start real work, at least for 12 months some times up to 18. Money is the big one for me right now. when i get out of school go to where ever i go to train i need decent pay, and when training or orientation is over after however many weeks each company does it i want to be with one that i can start getting good paychecks. I am used to making 51K a year as of late with being in the military with the rank at where i was.
i know i probably will not hit that right away first year in trucking but i want to come close, my retirement can help make the difference. thanks for some of the info on Groendyke. I have researched them greatly, along with the flatbed company TMC. They are my two top companies but i have trouble to decide based on the pay. It is just cause of a situation i am in at the moment getting started into this thing, trying to make my finances work in between final military pay and my first retirement along with starting a new job, all the will my wife looking for a job as well.

Funny, every time I talked to one of their drivers they said good pay & o.k. but never seemed happy. Maybe I just caught them at a bad time?

Derp, forgot to say I was also let go because of a tow-away a few years back. Had written permission and a note on the truck and trailer. Wrecker company owner takes it anyway after an employee refused to latch-on, saying it was legal. Karma is funny he is now out of business for fraud and employees selling drugs.

Stress is normal, GT hauls some nasty things. 0 Zero mistakes allowed. Your good, or your dead. I never did that. Boiling asphalt was my limit. Well there was that suspended Nitro Glycerin those three loads. 3 gallons, one square mile. You won't even know it.
