First fleet (fountian colorado) has the blame it all on the driver down real good.
Example, while on the way to shipper i get message to call with e.t.a. When loaded,
while pulling into the shipper i get message to call with e.t.a. When loaded,
while parked at the dock loading i get message to call with e.t.a. When loaded,
pulling away from the dock dispatch calls and in a degrading tone tells me how important it is i answer,
i calmly explain you can look to see if i have arrived and or departed shipper yet.
(but thank you for thinking the worst !)
example, recieved load info to late to get to on time and when i called in to say i was going to be late,
i was intrupted with a degrading tone how important it is i get to s/r on time,
i calmly explained that you could look to see where i was and how many miles/time it would take to get there,
(but thank you for thinking the worst !)
example, recieved message to do lot check, 2 hours later, degrading tone re: How important it is to let dispatch to know,
i calmly ask if you have voicemail issues (again).
(but thank you for thinking the worst)
im sorry im such a dumb truck driver !

So the dispatcher owns the company?
-
With 19 years experience, why do you work for such a crummy company? Seems all the First Fleet terminals have 3 or 4 drivers the dispatchers grovel around & the rest of the drivers are just necessay evils.
-
I thought FirstFleet was right at the top of the scale with drivers trucks and every other thing!
Chinatown Thanks this. -
That was my experience for the 3 months I worked there. They hired about 40 or so of us at one time, from a company that went bankrupt, and within 3 months only 1 of us was still there. None were fired.
-
What was your experience? That they DON'T treat their drivers very well or that they do? i must not be seeing what is happening with them?
Chinatown, I wanted to say Thank You for your Wisdom that you share, I hope after 30 Years of driving a truck I can sit up and receive nourishment let alone help others in the industry! Thanks Man!

From my experience, favoritism was rampant. I'm pretty laid back and don't sweat the small stuff, but that place really got to me. I was in several terminals from the East Coast to the West Coast and drivers I talked to at each one had the same opinion. I personally overheard some phone calls I wasn't supposed to hear, and know drivers were being told to stay home because of no work, when in fact loads were being held back for buddies that were still on the road, which I had heard phone conversations about that also. This was at night & the dispatchers did not know I was in the building. Instead of complaining, I quietly quit and moved on.

Took a load of candy to Phoenix and was told to leave the load there & head to California. The night dispatcher in Phoenix threw a fit and accused me of trying to pawn work off on him and ordered me to make the several stops in AZ anyway. I didn't argue, and made the stops and at each stop they complained they didn't want the stuff for another month. The last stop, the store was still being refurbished and not even open for business. Called Phoenix, they sheepishly said bring that stop back to the terminal. They tried to blame me for making the deliveries when I was supposed to drop the load there & wouldn't admit they screwed up. When that run was over I walked away and never looked back. That kind of stuff went on all the time. Constant headache!

QualComm, PeopleNet, e-Logs, etc... all equals 'BABYSITTING" the driver.
Cure? Drive for someone that uses paper logs, and cell phones.
The Government babysits and regulates drivers enough...why put up with a company doing it too?
Give me my load, and let me do my thing. I can prove through my track record, that I don't need someone else driving my truck, running my log book, or even telling me where and when to fuel, and how much to put on.
In 20 years time, I drove for ONE company (Florilli) that tried to pull that crap on me....and I quit them in a heartbeat when I found that they would not budge from that particular practice.
Hey Florilli---you are aloud to own the equipment, and find my loads, THAT'S IT, I will do the rest.
