My dad's MXS Cat will throw you into the windshield compared to my 5EK Cat. Is there any 'yellow magic' parts swapping I could do to make the jake on my 5EK hold back better? That's my only complaint about my motor compared to his.

Are you sure they are both genuine Jake brake parts, not pac brakes?

Yeah a perfectly working pac-brake sucks compared to an ok working jake brake.

If you have a weak JAKE break get a rebuild kit and freshen it up if they have lots of miles. It will work like new again.

Thanks. Mine is a Jacobs brand. Saw it with my own eyes when I ran the rack a few months ago. That alone helped but I think #3's exhaust nut being MIA was the main culprit. Still not as strong as my dads MXS motor though

The Jake Brake on these engines is the same, as long as it is a later serial number 6NZ engine. The earlier 6NZ serial number used a 340C model Jake Brake, the later 6NZ and MBN engines used a 340D model Jake Brake.

I don't think there is any difference in the braking force of these two models. The difference in them is in how they adjust. The 340D is much easier to adjust when you run the overhead

    Mr. Haney,

Off the top of your head do you know if the 5EK Jake and MXS Jake's should have a noticeable difference in braking power? I am thinking that this was in reply to the OP, but in case mine should be as strong as our other truck I'd like to try and figure out why it's weaker.

    Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken the comp ratio on mbn pistons are 16:3, 6nz are 16:1. I believe the 6nz & 7cz use the same cam so using the mbn cam in a 6nz is going backwards, just my .02:biggrin_25519:

    semicrazycanuck Thanks this.
