That makes sense on the face of it, but if you are trying to minimize the number of 30 minute breaks you are required to take, then it makes most sense to take a 30 minute break after you have been on duty for 6 hours from when you first logged in for your pretrip inspection.
Let's say you go on duty, then arrive at a shipper 2 hours after going on duty. It takes them an hour to get you loaded and you log at least a 30 minute break during that loading time (assuming you used 15 minutes to check in and get your trailer in the dock and maybe 5 minutes to get your paperwork, close the doors, and get underway), now you are about 3 hours into your 14 hour "shift". Once you start driving you now have 8 hours maximum drive time until you are again required to take a 30 minute break. Remember, you can't go for more than 8 hours at any time without taking a 30 minute break.
The optimal time to take a break is at around 6 hours from when you first went on duty. Let's say you go 6 hours, then take a 30 minute break. You will then have 7.5 hours left after taking that break, so you won't have to take another 30 minute break before your 14 hours are done.DoneYourWay Thanks this. -
Well that is true. But hey. This is trucking and you have to be willing to adapt overcome and improvise cause as you know, no matter how well you plan your day a fly will land in your ointment and mess it up and no two days are the same. You have to find what works for you. Splitting sleeper time will NEVER work for me

won't be improvising much longer.
that gooberment leash is hitting trucks faster then the gooberment will implement the program. -
Funny how that works. I never look at my truck at all when I get out of it. Don't we just love rules crammed down our throat? Question, Troopers, Scale Roosters, you open every closet door in your house every time you get home? You should. Might be an Avon rep hiding, wanting to sell you more stuff.

The 8/2 is great until that one 8 hr night you can't sleep. Thanks to this thread... This is not that night!
-
I've use it quite often.. It's only difficult for the ones who don't understand it .. Lol for me there's times it really helps and times it don't.

the 8 is allright. if your parked for the night. but the 2 can defentily bite you. specially if your running pacific time. you just unloaded on the east side. and now have to take your 2. and by the time that's done. it's too late to go anywhere for your next load.
course, if your running east time zone. and your on the west. well, heck, you've got all day left. -
thank you double yellow!

Is this something new?, I'll do some research, I haven't used the split sleeper provision in a long time, but back when I use to, it still could not extend to 14, only the 11
