OTR TRUCKING JUST SUCKS BAD..That is if you are a family man with a great personal life..If you are a loner, homeless type,go get a CDL..

Touring the land is a Fantasy,in many ways.It is not what it used to be.When i started trucking we could stop and do whatever we wanted. We fished, brought are tractor on the beach and smoked some weed with the woman. We partyed and had FUN FUN FUN.We had convoys and NOT MANY REGULATIONS...We were the knights of the highway and we had FREEDOM...You will not have this freedom..You will be monitored and put into a truck stop like a ROBOT...The truck stop is your FREEDOM...Big Deal...

It may take years before you make ''good money''..Very least,2 years..(if lucky)

Forget the ''homelife''..Your entire life, love and family will be uprooted and disrupted..You will enter a world of ''loner' and ''recluse''..

If you want me to tell you the REALITY of trucking,i will call you or you can call me and i will give it to you from the hip...

You know.. truckers are not the only people in the country who's job/ career takes them away from home.. when I was in sales I was out for three weeks, home for 4 days.. military people are also away from their home and family for long periods at a time..

Also, many high school graduates leave home, family and friends to go off to college or pursue a career or just for fun..

I have a 9 year old niece who was a way at summer camp this summer and didn't whine and cry like some of the truck drivers here do..

    You missed the Point 883

You know.. truckers are not the only people in the country who's job/ career takes them away from home.. when I was in sales I was out for three weeks, home for 4 days..You were not subject to a ''parking lot'' smelling like piss... military people are also away from their home and family for long periods at a time..They too are not subject to a parking lot because of ''regulations''

Also, many high school graduates leave home, family and friends to go off to college or pursue a career or just for fun..They have fun and FREDDOM.They are not subjected to a smelly parking lot and told to ''stay put''...

I have a 9 year old niece who was a way at summer camp this summer and didn't whine and cry like some of the truck drivers here do..

Well.. college dorm rooms get pretty rank.. so while the parking lot may not smell of piss.. your dorm mate may have wet his bed again after passing out from winning the beer pong tournament and hitting the beer bong several times..

I am also certain that many military people and certainly our soldiers have been in places far worse that any smelly parking lot..

Maybe it is you that miss the point...

There was a man who complained that be had no shoes till be met the man with no feet..

Obviously, over the road trucking is not for someone who doesn't or can't be away from their home, family and friends... However, there are people who can and do still maintain healthy and rewarding relationships even while being on the road.... There are those who have a maintain a home while on the road..
So, I strongly disagree with you that OTR is only for for homeless people with no family ir friends..

If you so strongly dislike what you are doing why do you not do something else..

Also, I did not spend my time in smelly parking lots.. and not all truckers do...

Charlami and Arkansas Frost Thank this.

Just like any other line of work, or any other lifestyle, (and yes OTR IS a lifestyle,) it isn't for everyone. But it IS a great way of life for some people.

It doesn't matter what kind of work you talk about, there are people who love it and people who hate it. And then there are the poor folks who are caught in between, who just tolerate it for whatever reason.

Dang it Chinatown....I really want to be your friend. :yes2557: You've lived the kind of life I dream of living (including finding a beautiful Asian girl to spend my time with), but can't seem to find the courage/attitude/mindset to fully commit to it.

I need to keep your paragraph above in mind.....daily.
