I'm in Arizona studying for a CDL permit before going to the Swift school. Right now I'm just reading the handbook from the DMV and looking for reliable practice tests. Any other ideas?

I guess whatever works for you - can you read and retain the information you've read? In your past, what study habits helped you best with tests? Are you looking for practice (mock) RMV exams?
Everyone learns differently.
Google your states exams; even though they are pretty standard (DOT state to state), you may be able to find your states entire exam(s) posted online (obviously, not "legal").
I had both forms, A and B, for general, combination, air brakes, hazmat, tanker, doubles and triples and they were exact!
To be honest, if you have that much trouble passing these tests then..................it aint the MCAT's to get into medical school. -
In the past I've done best with reading and using either flash cards or practice tests or something similar, in addition to paying attention to lectures (kinda fresh outta university). I've rarely done badly on any test on any subject, but I always worry that this time I'll fail...but maybe that's why I don't tend to xD

You'll be fine my friend - just use what works for you! I know how you feel though, I too haven gotten nervous, then start second guessing myself : )Kael Seoras Thanks this.

Yeah.. I think you will do fine too.. it is understandble to be a nervouse..
I am sure you can find some practice test on line...
You can always make your own flash cards too..
Good luck to you.. I think you will do well.. -
Keep this in mind. The tests you are given are multiple choice. There are really three types of questions.
True/False - watch for the "always" or "never" statements. Usually a false statement.
ABC or D - Two of the answers are totally ridiculous (example, a question will literally ask when a light turns red, what should you do? One of the answers will be "immediately accelerate and get through the intersection as fast as possible". The other will be some other stupid comment). That leaves one wrong answer and the correct one.
ABC or all of the above - If two answers are correct, it's obviously all of the above. If one answer is obviously wrong, it's one of the other two answers.
You'll be fine. The general knowledge section is pretty much a joke (see above example LOL). The airbrake section is a little tougher, but still common sense for the most part. Just read through the manual multiple times so you retain it. I probably read each section 10-15 times over and over before taking the test. Doing that should be fine, plus take a couple practice tests after reading over it multiple times.
After you get your permit I would suggest taking the Doubles/Triples and tanker endorsement tests as well and just get them out of the way. Why not, their pretty simple for the most part. The Hazmat test was the toughest, only because they asked questions about specific chemicals that I wasn't even prepared for. Still passed it though. -
Well neighbor, I'm in Arizona, you being just getting out of a University you will do fine, May I ask why you are going to Swift? they will train you and then hold you hostage for 12 months to pay the training back, I wouldn't want to do that if there are other options! What have you looked into? Or are you set to go to swift?
On the Original Post, you will do just fine, they test you till you are to point of no return, If you get the questions right they don't keep giving it to you, they give you a certain number of questions and if you don't miss any you don't have to take anymore! I'm not sure what this is called but you will do fine.any of the test you take onlie are going to be the exact test you get when you get there! Thanks. -
The "CDL Practice Tests" accessed at the top of this page are excellent. Get all the endorsements also.

Wait, isn't that the right answer for that question?

This is true, I have to retake my general and air brakes, along with getting a few more endorsements, these practice exams are great.Last edited: Oct 3, 2013
