Trying to figure out what would be the best motor for the 2014 Glider that I'm wanting to purchase. DD 12.7 or DD 14.L or N14. I don't feel like I can take the chance on a new one because of all the problems I see them having with all the emissions.

personaly I would go with either the 12.7 can darn near fix anywhere or the N14 parts easier to find for the 12.7 though

I can be wrong but I think pre-emission 14.L were on market only year or 2 so maybe they are hard to find. But check Yourself, I just heard that.

The non-egr 12.7 has a reputation for good fuel economy , power , and dependability ( I have over a million miles experience with them). It should be easy to find parts and people that can work on the 12.7 . As someone else said, the 14 litre non-egr is not very common. The N14 has really good torque, but the one I drove needed fuel injectors often. But that was 20 years ago, so hopefully they fixed that issue.
I have a C15 6nz in my current truck. It is very dependable, has decent torque/power . And I can average 6.5 mpg.
    The CAT is 550 hp / 1850 lbs.ft.. The 12.7 has a max setting 500 hp/ 1650 torque (factory settings anyway).
So you might consider an older style CAT also. But make sure it is a 6nz. Btw there are some single turbo CATs that were known as bridge engines produced after the 6nz.. avoid the bridge motors (bad fuel economy).
I might get a new glider, and I might go back to the Detroit. But I might keep the old truck (partly to save that drive train) .

    Battle Born Thanks this.

My glider has a 12.7 Detroit and I am VERY happy with it. It pulls as good as the acert 475 cat in my last truck and my fuel mileage for my first five weeks of operation is 7.24 mpg. The engine only has a little over 13,000 miles so I expect to see the mileage increase as the break in is continuing. I wouldn't have any other engine after running this Detroit. I had two cat powered trucks before this one and was a dedicated cat fan until getting this truck.

I'm not thrilled with my 14 liter EGR. I still think that a 6NZ Cat is the best motor I've ever driven, but when it comes to overall cost of ownership the 12.7 might save you some $$$$.

Heard some bad stuff about 14L DD, if you go with DD better get the 12.7L, N14 great engine, CATs get ready for spending extra on fuel and parts/repairs, you dont need atm extra exp.

I have nary an issue with the 12.7 in my 2013 glider. I did dump the waste gate turbo when we dropped in the engine for a Borg Warner 171702 non waste gate version. This engine has ample power. I can pull the hills with virtually everyone out here, unless they might have tweaked their own engine and are laying down more power than stock. I walk right on past normal company trucks, even on hard pulls with serious weight in the back. The pre-egr DDEC IV 12.7 is a solid engine, easy to fix, parts are everywhere, and it gets good fuel economy. Mine has averaged high 7's, year round, since I got it. Summer is especially nice.... it averages 8 mpg.
