That is what a button hook turn is for. As for the other cars....if you can't make the turn because another vehicle is in the way you should just sit there and wait. Eventually one of those 4 wheelers will realize you need room and stay back.

Narrow rds is no excuse to hit curbs.During your carreer you're going to have to drive on a lot of narrow roads. You take up all the available space if need be to make a turn.Sometimes on a 2 lane road and you make a turn you may have to take up both lanes. But ALWAYS make sure no cars sneak up beside you when getting ready to turn. You wanna talk narrow, try driving on a farm road and have to make a turn with ditches on both sides.
HotH2o Thanks this. -
I was just saying that some roads in my area, there's no way to make the turn without hitting the curb.....even when taking up both lanes.

I disagree with this statement. I can think of quite a few cities where you have no choice but to go curb surfing or else your taking down a pole or a fence on the corner. Believe me ive been to quite a few of them places. Philly and Crashville come to mind. Ive been down roads that were barely wide enough for my truck.

If you live in Maryland you'll probably end up at Shippensburg for orientation. Just try to avoid the guard rails down at the end of the road, there's a nice big ditch on the other side. Seems a lot of drivers we have now can't make the turn without running them over.

Very true, sometimes it can't be avoided. When I was testing out for my CDL at the DMV I ran over a curb in their lot deliberately because there was no other way around it.The tester said that's what he wanted me to do because of the tight area and the cars.
-
True,I know sometimes it can't be helped..But if at all possible try.You don't wanna make it a habit clipping curbs because it seems the easiest way.East coast is full of tights turns.Theres been times I didn't turn wide enough and had to stop to signal the traffic to back up so I could back up and try again.I don't care how many cars r behind you, always make sure you clear poles signs ect,if not then back up and make your turn wider. When I first started driving I ran over a few curbs and had to replace a few tires.Just saving ppl from making the same mistake.Back then I got lucky and didn't have to pay for it but now the driver gets charged and/or its on your dac as a preventable. But the more exp the better the turning and not running over any curbs hitting objects ect.

Not true, Crete gives you your physical, drug test and road test all on the first day. You are with a tester so you can drive before you get your job offer.
Here is what another member wrote about the Crete Orientation Day 1 -
"I was called for my road test about mid afternoon. There was no-pre trip test. The tester just asked if I had driven before. I told him my experience and he just said "okay", you know what to look for... Drove for maybe 15 miles on a narrow country highway, then on the freeway, then downtown Lincoln and back to the terminal. Nothing tricky or very hard."

Pre-Trip, trailer hook, brake test, road test & dock test ? Wow. They tested you like you were at the DMV. US Xpress just made us do the road test & dock. What was most important to them was that you were a safe driver. Your a new driver....of course your not going to be perfect. I think the place you tested at was too intense.
