Just curious what your thoughts are on the Ultra-Shift trucks. Are they good or garbage? I've never heard anything about them. When I had my truck it had the Cummins ISX 450 with a 13 speed. I ended up getting like 7.5 mpg with 45 in the box in the mountains. If you have one of these Ultra-Shifts what kind of mpg are you getting?

I had an Ultra and an I shift. I shift is better but only in Volvos. The Ultra is ok. If you are a skilled driver you would get better mileage with a manual tranny but the Ultra is consistent. It does not "skip" gears when loaded light - that may not be true of the new ones but mine was in an 07. The only problem I ever had with it was an X-Y shifter going out. If that happens your dead and calling a tow. Going down the road it's no different than a regular 10, in traffic it is great! I would buy one again but wouldn't go out of my way. Just FYI, you will get used to it if you buy one and drive it for a long time and then be rusty rookie when you go back to driving a manual!

No, I like the manual....I'd probably never buy one. Was just wondering

I am looking to buy one soon, already working on the deal so any info would be great.

I drove an 05 or 06 with an Ultra, it was a thoroughly bad experience I feel lucky to have survived without maishap.
I hated it in traffic.
The newer ones may be much better, but I would never buy an Eaton used. -
Just got a new 2014 Cascadia with DD13 500hp with 10 speed Ultrashift 4 weeks ago.Running 7-8 mpg and truck only has 17000 miles on it.Not even broke in yet.

New ultra shift is the ultra shift plus. It will skip shift. Haven t driven one yet though. We see alot of them coming in and they don't stay long. Allot are going to farmers and construction companies. Farmers really rely on seasonal workers as do the construction companies up here in MN. This year I would say 15 to 20 percent of the fleet trucks have had them. I don't see them coming through the shop for transition trouble. Only frequent problem I have encountered it there is a cable that runs from the shifter down to the floor and behind the drivers seat. If the connecters get broken or loose it causes problems.

you can skip shift on ultra shift,
you just need to read manual how to use it! I guess lot of drivers just dont want to learn
...You just press that shifting arrow 2x and you skip the gear, hope this will help

I have driven the new Ultra-shift plus and I am a huge fan. They are nothing like the older ultra shifts, they have hill start aid, if you barely touch the accelerator it will ride the clutch smoothly and slowly, does not have to ram under trailers, smooth. I can't say enough good things about it. I highly recommend at least test driving one if your interested. I believe the new ultra shift plus is in 2011 and newer trucks, anything older would be the crappy ultra shift.
