Thanks for the advice guys. I guess its time to apply. Schools and companies here i come. By the way, i have read a lot of negative stuff about trucking but, me and my 4 year old son still think truckers are cool. Hopefully I will be out there with you all soon
fr8te_sh8ker, Chinatown and Charli Girl Thank this. -
With a 4 year old son you may be happier staying closer to home then going OTR..
Keep checking craigslist and job boards.. you may be able to get on with a local out company.. some wharehouse jobs can move into tracking jobs..
Do your research and think through your choices and your decisions.. after all.. you do have a 4 year old and the waters for new truck drivers, especially those needing schooling and training have more under currents then most realize...
Good luck to you.. -
I appreciate you thinking about my family situation but in a rural area like this where $10 and hour is considered a good paying job and youre really doing good above $12 i just have to make some sacrifices for my wife and kids. We plan on trying it for a year. Just to get caught up and maybe ahead for once

While you're doing your year, get the tanker/hazmat & TWIC then you might land a good local tanker job or food grade with a company like Foodliner.

Chinatown is 100% right with that.. get your endorsements and TWIC.. it opens up opportunities for you..
I understand being rural and needing to donwhat you got to do to take take care of the family...
You could post an ad on craigslist or the job seeker thread here and see if there is an O/O willing to train you.. you may find one and a good opportunity as well.. -
Another way into driving is to go to work for a distribution center or a warehouse. Once you're on with them ask how you can become a driver. They may be able to put you through training that is required to make you insurable. McLane Grocery Distribution is not too far from you, in Ozarka MO and that is a GREAT company.
Here's their online job board: https://www.mclaneco.com/content/mclane/en/careers/join-the-mclane-team.html
Here's an example of a warehouse job: https://www.mclaneco.com/content/mclane/en/careers/all-jobs/warehouse/warehouse-ozark.html
Good luck with it.DoneYourWay Thanks this. -
There are very few ways to get a job without paying your dues. You are wasting your time, get on with a mega carrier, go with their trainer, do a year or so, keep your record clean and then move on. Make yourself marketable, get your HaZmat and passport it will put you ahead of the crowd. Dont just sit there get out and make it happen you could be earning money and building senority someplace. KEEP your record CLEAN. No speeding, obey HOS ect. Good Luck and try to enjoy if this is really what you want to do. Joe
