Wrong. Well as far as it not being on your license. But it's still on your DAC report.

I slightly damaged a guardrail at a customer when I was with USXpress back about 7 years ago. I just got my DAC report from HireRight, I had them send it to me in the mail, and sure enough, the incident was on the DAC report.

I used to drive an old B-60 Thermodyne Mack and the best way to stop that single wheel spinning was a lite application of the brakes. Just a touch was usually sufficient. Of course that was back in the day before brakes on the steering axle, but it worked in the situation you described and in sand or snow or even ice at those slow maneuvering speeds.

One aspect of this incident that should be discussed is that shippers and receivers often have yards that are set up to damage equipment and signage (or posts). Many's the time I get into a yard and see yellow concrete posts with truck paint all over them, bent over from being hit many times, or signs or curbs that don't give enough room for a truck to make a turn, or docks with concrete posts right in the way of where you need to jackknife in... the list is almost endless.

Count on it, if the sign or the concrete post or the curb is already damaged and has truck paint on it somebody else already hit it and likely many truckers hit it. The customers need to make proper room for 53' footers to get into or out of their docks. Yet many times I see warehouse workers or managers parking their cars right in your critical path.

I've been at shippers before where the situation was so bad I simply parked my truck in the alley and told them they had to get a pallet jack in and load me in the alley. Many times in those locations they expect that's what you would do anyway. No need to risk your equipment to get into their ridiculous docks.

You hit a sign. And you were honest. Hey, you made a mistake. It happens. And since you were honest, your company will take that into consideration. And probably appreciate it. You're fine. And already a step ahead of many for doing the right things after a mistake. Keep trucking.

Consider yourself very lucky if it's true.
