If I remember correctly, you are located in MN. Not too many Js up there or Pilots, but Pilot has acquired some old Holiday truck-stops and stations.
Com-data charges to use their card, the larger companies get rebates or discounts to offset but 1 truck wouldn't they are taken in more places than the others, but not at Flying J. I have used Com-data and am now using EFS, EFS can be used at most truck-stops including Flying J. You can't even use a Com-chek at most Flying J locations. There are some small places that take neither, and EFS is picky about giving other small places use of the card, though most will use a EFS check.
I guess if you want to use Flying J, use EFS, it will work at the other big chains, TCH wont.

Ok, I've purchased my truck (05' T600) leased on to a small company but thinking about a fuel card for myself or do I use a credit card that pays back money or bonuses.
-
i dunno i would go with ever one had a lower percentage rate and other things that would make it better than the other one, but thats just me...
-
the hook will take a fuel card....but not a credit card...either way pay off the balance ASAP
i personally would carry one of each....i just got a thing in the mail for the new "j" card.....im thinkin real hard about gettin it
good choice in trucks BTW.....now hows she specced???? -
I would suggest you do everything possible to pay cash. I understand the difficulty when you are just starting but you will find the benefits of paying cash will eventually outweigh the convenience of using any card.
I do sometimes using a credit card. I would suggest you find a Mastercard with whatever benefits you could use it for, such as cash back, flying miles, discounts on fuel, etc...
I personally use a cash back Mastercard. The percentage I get back coupled with the discounts from using cash usually puts me at about a 7% discount total for fuel.
Every trucker is in a different situation so you need to figure out what's the best for you based on cash flow, fuel prices in your area, taxes, and what you're hauling - such as weight. -
Being that you are leasing to a company, they will most likely require you to use their fuel card. It makes it easier for them to process the ifta reports. Otherwise, you will have to provide copies of the fuel purchases to them to support the fuel tax purchases.

The statement "cash is king" is never more true than when buying fuel. Unless you can buy your fuel cash/debit card I don't see a O/O making it very long at all. If you are super super anal about paying your CC off every month you might be able to get away with that. But honestly how many of us are that disciplined?
I pay cash for all my fuel or I don't run. My debit card has a cash back feature so that is nice. I don't win much, a couple free gallons of fuel a month, but hey its some thing. -
If the company you are leased to offers a card that might be the way to go. The company I am leased to gets a substancial discount off the cash price at the pump at J and TA's and Petro also has a cash advance feature so I can run on their money with no fee's. And as one other mentioned it is easier for getting ifta taxes filed.

i try to use cash as much as i can
at the pump its 3-7 cents cheaper
200 x 3.42 = 684
200 x 3.46 = 692
thats eight bucks a fill up, twice a week is 16
times 52 weeks a year
thats 832 bucks a year your giving away
i think i did that right ...? -
What about Comdata or TCH cards? Any O/O's use them?
I have them at my company job, but I am searching options for when I go on my own.
