While I have never worked for TMC, I really think you misunderstood something here. WIFI in the truck????? I don't think so. Satellite communications, just like every other medium or large company. Someone who works there, please tell me I am right (or wrong).
question about internet

Your wrong. Our trucks QC are wifi capable. It's just not a feature turned on in our trucks. Can't say for TMC
im not entirely sure the new QCs communicate 100% by satellite, I've got bars on my screen that represent cell signal. So it may be both, one, or the other. -
the problem i'm facing with that is the best plan i can find is still going to cost me over a hundred a month for 20 gb of data. I do a lot of gaming\netflix and i'm not for sure but i imagine I could churn through that in a night.

yeah tmc's big pitch was we have sexy peterbuilts and wifi

you are paid to drive a truck, playing on the net all night long is not conducive to driving safely the next day. Don't underestimate how tired you will be at the end of a 12 plus hour day. Especially in the beginning. I know different people need different amounts of sleep, but no matter what, you need adequate rest to safely do your job.
I had looked on TMC website and it says nothing on the wifi, but if it is so, thanks for putting it right for me. -
Yeah, netflix will chew through that in a flash even on the low quality setting.
The truckstop wifi wouldn't be so bad but they want you to pay at each different TS. 24hrs of wifi at Loves is 24hrs at Loves and not Petro even though it's wandering wifi that provides the service, you can just pay wanderinf wifi for service and use it ant any of em.. no they are chumps. And you'll be lucky if there is even enough bandwidth to stream a flick most of the time. -
It won't do much for your gaming fix, but have you thought of satellite TV for your movie needs? Like the ones RV'ers use?
I have Verizon hotspot on my smartphone, 4G speed, 4gigs/mo. and it's pretty easy to max out that limit just with occasional YouTube trucking videos. I don't know much about data requirements for gaming. Other than my monthly data limitations I'm very happy with Verizon 's service. -
I bought a second hand verizon hotspot off Craigslist for $20, that way I'm not locked into a 2 year contract. My usage varies, but I can chew thru 8gb/month fairly easily with netflix and downloading Sirius OnDemand shows. If I happen to be parked near a mcdonalds or Starbucks, I'll walk across the street and use their wifi to download Sirius, or sometimes I'll just pay the few bucks to get truckstop wifi. $5 for 24 hours of unlimited unreliable data still beats maxing out your $90 verizon allotment in the same amount of time.
On my old Sprint iPhone 4S, I had it jailbroken and used a free app called PDANet to turn my phones hotspot capabilities on with no additional charges from Sprint. It was perfect a perfect solution for using all the unlimited data I wanted. Keep in mind, Sprint's coverage is not as good as say Verizon, but it served me quite nicely. When I upgraded to the iPhone 5S I lost my jailbreak and thus lost the wifi app.
Slightly off topic but useful nevertheless, You might look into savefrom, net which allows you to download YouTube and other videos straight to your device for viewing later. Perfect for downloading videos to your computer while you HAVE wifi and watching them later when you're in Wyoming or some other remote land where the internet doesn't exist. It's also helpful for storing videos you view frequently or like to have as a reference, without having to eat into your data every time you want to view it.
