Hello people,
I have a smooth job lined up with a local aggregate company. The pay is good, the company is excellent and offers great benefits. Home daily!!! These people like me, they love me, but since my experience has been dropping and hooking grape trailers at the winery, and I have very limited experience over the road, they want me to get 60 days experience with a bottom feeder company before they put me on the payroll.
I have 2 kids--gotta get home a bit. I have like 3 months experience and have dropped/hooked about 1,000 times in my career. I am used to pulling primarily doubles. I'm trying to find a company that will train me, that might let me get home a couple times, and won't completely trash my DAC report when I bail on them for the local job after 60 days.
I'm near Stockton/Sacramento, if any local people can point me in the right direction.
I only need 2 months of OTR. What's the best route to go?

First, do some google search for a rent-a-driver company. These companies supply drivers to companys for a day, week, month, etc. You're under no contract, so there's no bailing out after 60 days. A company might get some extra freight & short on drivers, so they call the rent-a-driver company for "X" amount of time. Your employment will show working for the rent-a-driver company the full time, not the various companies they sent you to.
If that doesn't work, apply with Watkins & Shepard or Schneider.Jrdude5 Thanks this. -
Here's an example of a rent-a-driver company:

Have you heard of this recruiter: David Transportation Services - Cherry Hill NJ[/h]They are recruitment outfit, a staffing service, and do not have trucks or loads.
Here's their info: http://www.davisdrivers.com/jobseekers/
I came across them talking to a Dispatcher who said he uses them several times a year for fill-in and temp-to-hire eligible drivers. Jrdude5 Thanks this. -
Central refrigerated is looking for some local drivers in the WA area... Just a thought...

Decide what color truck you want and jump in.

If you quit the right way no company will scar your DAC report up. 1. Don't quit under a load. If they have assigned you a load deliver it. Go with a company that uses qualcom. Most companies these days do. Get your 2 months with them. Give a 2 weeks notice if you can (ALL OVER THE QUALCOM). Be specific when you quit. Tell them the date you want to turn their truck in. Ask them where they want you to take your truck to turn it in. I repeat DO NOT QUIT UNDER A LOAD. If they have assigned you a load that you haven't picked up then you are considered under a load. You probably know that. If you quit the right way no company will scar your DAC.

There's lots of seasonal type work near you, tomatoes, carrots, cotton whatever. You can run from the valley to Yuma area for instance, which should count as "OTR" for aggregates. With aggregates, they're not concerned with you dealing with warehouses etc. Just some seat time. You might try Cherokee freight there in Stockton.

Yeah, my last job was actually with Cherokee doing seasonal grape work for the winery. Excellent company, great pay and I was home daily. I love that company and might get on permanent with them next grape crush. Whats this about seasonal work ? Tomatoes are almost finished... any leads on cotton ? Or any other seasonal runs ?
-
Well, since Ca. grows just about anything in the valley, there should be something going on. Pecans. Do some checking. How about chicken (processed) deliveries to L.A. area ?

Know of any companies?
