Its a very good job,for me it was not so much about the money. I liked the schedule and the way everyone treated me. I cant comment on my seperation because its now going to court but reinstatement is not off the table and its something I would really have to think about.

Actually I have softened my stance on not adding trucks to my current operation and I like the idea of having a job with the fleet as well as my own small fleet. Im a really good boss because I know what matters to the guys. And it is all good because you at the private fleet are some of the best and I hope they can keep it that way.

Desert_Skies, I have 20 years and well over 2 million safe driving miles and have been with the same company for 15 years with several driver of the quarter and driver of the year awards with them and Walmart told me I had the last spot for an interview. Sorry we don't meet your high standards but then again you are awesome so who possibly could?

Grabberblue12, the phone call was an interview they called the first time to set up the phone interview then the 2nd call I talked to the head of recruiting and the head of safety where they talked to me about walmart then they said they were starting the interview where they asked me 9 questions, after that they put me on hold to discuss if I passed or not which they said I did. Then they told me they are sending my info to the D.C where I'll have to go in and meet the manager and do my road test.

    interpreter Thanks this.

Thats a very constructive post and Im sure you put a great amount of thought into it. And thanks for the compliment I dont really like the word awesome,my kids use it so I think its kind of a juvenile term. I like the fact that Walmart rewarded me for my outstanding accomplishments in both my business and personal life. I have achieved sucess multipile times but never driver of the quarter or driver of the year, thats pretty cool but more for a Swift or JB Hunt kind of guy. So was it Swift,JB maybe England? Sorry but my hard work was rewarded with 90k a year in wages and another 25k in union benefits but I guess thats my high expectations. I came to the private fleet for different reasons, money was about third.

So are you private fleet or not,and what kind of results do you think the new recruitment process will have? Do you think other "awesome" drivers are going to be as quick to make the jump to Walmart?

You're correct awesome is juvenile that's why I used it to describe your post. Again your attempt at insulting me doesn't work because your background doesn't impress me, I've made a very good income and worked for a quality carrier so save your J.B. Hunt insults for someone they bother. Which too is the most juvenile and over used insults some can come up with. Just not sure why you have to try and put down new recruits to make you feel better about yourself? By the way good luck on your lawsuit.

Wow. Bashing Swift...ok, but JB Hunt is no fly by night op. One of the safest fleets and they don't hire out of schools. Certainly not an elite fleet, but not a joke either. I worked for them for the last 6 years before coming on with Walmart, and I have them to thank for a few things that I believe directly attributed to my successfully making it this far. First, they provided me with a work environment that kept me happy, so I didn't job-hop (which Walmart frowns upon). Second, good, safe, well maintained equipment that helped with up-time which equates to being able to achieve the necessary miles and maintain a perfect csa. Third, they paid well enough that I could wait until my kids were old enough for me to make this move. Fourth, their safety program is probably one of the best in the industry. That, and everything else they did, gave me all the experience and knowledge I needed to easily qualify for this job at Walmart. It is unprofessional to attack someone else's employer who you may see as below you, for the sake of trying to make your point, and it's even more unprofessional to make assumptions and stereotypes as to a company someone may be working for, again, to make your point. I take offense at what you said, sorry. It was an unnecessary comment that was no doubt intended to inflame the recipient.

Coming soon to a DC near you. My DC is doing the first phone interview that I know of, on Monday. And this applicant lives much closer than I do. I think it's just the fact that they need to speed up the process (not lowering any standards) as they still only filled FOUR of the 14 they tried to get with the April posting that I had applied for. I was the first one, the other 3 just started (July for me), so as anyone can see, 6 months later they're still looking for 10 more qualified drivers. I wish mine had been over the phone, would have been less stressful LOL. Less gas too!

What I think some people don't realize is that even if they make the process a little quicker, they're not making it EASIER, and after you're hired, you are still held to the high standards of the Private Fleet, and they'll show you the door real quick if you do anything illegal or unsafe. They use outside carriers to fill the gap, rather than just hire anyone. The reason is liability. If an outside carrier (we refer to them as 'dedicated') has an accident, it's on that company. Walmart driver has an accident? The lawyers salivate, everyone sees dollar signs, and someone gets a huge payday courtesy of Walmart. So that, along with the image and reputation of Walmart Private Fleet, is why you won't see them lower their STANDARDS.

Settle down there super trucker lets stop the insults and keep on topic. Your not even in yet (most guys wash on the road by the way) so take your spot on the ladder and stop trying to look like you have even the slightest clue about how things work. My observations of the new recruitment process are not a put down of the new recruits, its looking at the whole story from a different angle, its called fact based opinion. When you know the facts you are more than welcome to question my observations.

The goals that made me feel better about myself were passed long ago and had nothing to do with driving. I bet if I put my total compensation (Wages and Benefits) for the last twenty years on the table your idea of a very good income might just look a bit pathetic, but wait you have all those awards. Awards really dont pay the bills Chuck, unless you were up above that 100k a year line for most of those twenty years your awards are only a way to make you feel warm and fuzzy and help you forget about your compensation.

Walmart will always hire the best they can attract, key word here is attract. Like I said earlier I know people that will not be leaving their jobs because they do not like the direction Walmart is heading with recruiting as well as general operations.
