To me this proves the opposite of what others have said, if Walmart needs to fill positions then it is better to change the procedure so they can still hire the same quality of driver instead of lowering their standard and hiring who they can get to come in. I see it as they are expanding their search to find the caliber of driver they expect instead of settling.

    Extreme4x4 and grabberblue12 Thank this.

They already have lowered their standards, did you miss something? No one said they are down to Swifts standards but they are no where near what they were when guys like me considered moving to Walmart for our "last" job before pulling the plug.

For years an applicants with less than ten years or a million miles rarely made it to the first interview. I only know of a hanful that got in with less than ten. So the standards, not the minimum qualifications have been lowered in order to fill seats which has been my point all along. Im sorry if guys are getting all broken up over this fact but it the way it is. The standards are high but alot of the new boots would have never made it thru even just two years ago.

Glad your not useing that logic to hire my drivers. Elite to me is 20+ and 2 million miles, you dont have to change the process to get that kind of quality. The elite drivers know whats there and what to do to get that job. Radio ads are not there for the elite drivers, they are there to bring in the rest of the pool.

I guess I'm trying to figure you out. One day you are "Walmart is a great job," and the next day you are "Walmart is lowering their standards and becoming a mid pack carrier." Which is it??

It is also nice to know that I am considered a lower tier driver in your books. After all, I don't have 20 flawless years of experience...................... I am only going on 15 years. Due to the fact that I did get hired, then Walmart sure is lowering their standards. Yeppers, us 15 year "kids" are driving away the higher tier drivers from even applying. After all, what elite driver would want to be associated with the likes of us??

Working for the Private Fleet isn't just about money, it is about the entire picture. It is about mutual respect which is second to none in this industry. You may get more pay, and you may get more bennies elsewhere, but you will not drive for any company that treats you with more respect.................. in all aspects. Yes, the world is a changing place, and Walmart Transportation has to change with it. Sometimes this does not make a driver happy. However, often times this has more to do with the resistance to change than the actual change. Whether or not something is "worse," has to be looked at from other directions to understand it..................... not just from "how does it affect me, myself, and I."

Everyone I have talked to who is looking to work here, and is working here, still looks at this as their last job. This is the job they work towards in their career, and is their goal. Yes, they are hiring drivers in their 40's, and even in their upper 30's if they have the qualifications. I know, the horror, right?? As long as they are safe courteous drivers with long safe histories, who cares how old they are. If a fellow driver is going to discriminate against them based on this abstract number, then that is their problem. And no, I don't fall into that age category............... I'm 52.

As to attracting drivers.................. there is no issue there. There were over 1000 applicants for the 10 positions that they hired in 2 groups, at Buckeye. This isn't a picture of how they are lowering their standards, but is more a picture of how few highly qualified drivers there are. As to the changes in the application process................. that can only be a good thing. The logistics of trying to even get to my interviews was horrific. Many would not go through the bother.............. many who are very qualified. To see these changes as anything but positive just floors me.

Maybe next week you will like Walmart again.

Oh well, gotta go. My load is ready.

Graduated from JB Hunt driver training in 1991 did my year OTR as agreed and considered it the reason why I have had so much success in this industry. I feel very well qualified to voice my opinion on JB,Swift and all the others. Next shot please.

I have my college degree and a business of my own so your pay and background impress me not! But I'm done responding to you because I feel I'm lowering my IQ just being in the same thread as you.

Walmart is a great job, never said anything about "mid pack" anything. I have always stood up for Walmart, its very well documented in these forums. Your doing a little better but you still taking things a bit to personal. I dont really care about your personal story or your 15 years, you got the job which means you met the new standards. My observations are what I see and you can take it or leave it.

Th process was called jumping thru hoops for a reason. Its not a big thing if everyone can do it and get in. The point is mute with some of you, maybe after the honeymoon you can talk with some honest perspective.

Actually your really far off but thats okay,I had my two years and it was great. Very few will ever have that chance,Walmart was actually a step backwards from my Teamster job but it was done for a family reason which was taken care of. Sometimes things happen and doors open which is why Im far from pissed off. I would love to lay it all out so I could grind you into the mud but my attorney says no comments.

You have nothing of substance to offer and cant lay out a decent argument to counter my fact based observations. So until you get the call your nothing but just another face in the crowd. The crowd on the outside looking in.

Why thank you for insulting me while trying to wax poetically. I would never dream of belittling others as a way of making my point. Maybe this "elite" driver standard............... that I do not meet, isn't all its cracked up to be.

I realize you will now cry victim for me calling you out, and frankly, I couldn't care less. So, I am going to head on out with my "low hanging fruit" status, and get on with my "honeymoon." One question though, how long do I have to be here until my opinion counts?? Or, does it only count if it is negative?? An interesting observation.................. older folks are often the most resistant to change. Funny thing with the Private Fleet being a primarily older driver fleet. Coincidence??Maybe.

That said, I am done with this. Midnight, since you qualify as an "elite" driver, I guess this makes you qualified to have an opinion. Have at it !!!! LOL :)
