I would have never guessed this would be an option since you have to get out anyway. I can see a need for the yard jockies but for a OTR driver I don't think so.

I'm glad that the truck and trailers that I drove for the past 10 years didn't even have a fifth wheels so there was no need to worry about lub or any part failures.

I will stay with the manual way of unhooking....getting out and pulling the release handle....the grease is bad but I will just keep it like it is right now...

You guys keep talking about the grease... are you actually reaching under the trailer and pulling the lever with your hand instead of with a 5th wheel puller? I did a lot of drop and hook when I ran short-haul... I never got greasy.:biggrin_25512:

It's actually surprising (at least to me) to see how many people dont use a puller

I wear gloves to pull the release handle but I still get grease on my gloves and somehow I seem to get it somewhere on my clothes...but not every time....I do have a puller but seldom use it.....

My company will not buy a truck without in cab release. The brakes have to be set in order for release to be activated. My clothes seem to stay cleaner this way.:yes2557:

Does any body have proof of a trailer coming off going down the road from the fault of the in cab release. I have never heard of one.

Just post the article so we can read it. None of the use are engineers, that I know of. My wife is an engineer for one the major truck manufacture, they have heard of a case.
