You'll get answers to most of your questions in orientation. If you're anxious for info, go to the nearest truck stop & hang out with the drivers who mingle in front of the C-store (smokers). I drove for WEL 2 years. A pretty good outfit. Good people. I left to take a job closer to home (Idaho). Welcome to gear jammin' ! Stay safe.

You wont be doing much unloading. Youll be "waiting" on the lumpers to unload you, most of the time. Good Luck

Thanks for the info I appreciate it.

Enjoy the pizza if that's what they still serve in orientation . Man I was so sick of pizza I didn't want to even see a piece ever again. I ran the south east regional did ok a lot of Floridia, they was a ok company to me I found that having to beg for miles didn't work for me but does for some people. I know regional isn't going to have the miles as otr does but just didn't work for me.

Hey autotechmark! Sorry for the delay in the reply. When I unload I ask to use a manual pallet jack if the freight is line enough. Then it's a matter of moving cases from one pallet to another. It's not required, but something to do. You will find some rec will not allow you to use their equipment, but it happens. Let me know if you need any other info or have questions.

When I drove for WEL, they only required driver unload for 100 pieces (cases) or less. I only had 1 delivery where the receiver told me I had to do the breakdown. I had 1 other stop where I did a straight pull (2 pallets) with a pallet jack, no breakdown or count. Most of the shippers/receivers in WEL's customer base do not allow drivers on the dock. The worst part of pick-up & delivery is the wait time. The 14 hr. clock on your e-logs ticks away, sometimes close to 0 when you're still at the dock. Then it's a mad dash to the nearest parking (truck stop, etc.) to do your 10 hr. break. This can also put you way off schedule for your next appointment. Then you have to msg. or call your D.M. to reschedule. The one thing to keep in mind is; you're a driver, not a freight handler. Stay safe.

Think Twice and do more research before go for WEL
Here is my story: I'm in Dallas,TX and a recent Grad CDL.
Schneider and WEL call me back a day after submitted my application.
According to Truck report I pick WEL with APU and more mile;
I suppost to take Gray hound from Dallas,TX to Green Bay,WI for 4 1/2 week training
I got Gray Hound Confirmation number, Taxi phone number etc from WEL companies recruiter name Jody Dufek.
When I arrived Gray hound station in Dallas downtow on Lamar st.
Guest What ! No confirmation number !
No Ticket ! have been reserved under my name or WEL company.
The confirmation number that I have under someone name and go to New York not Green Bay,WI.
I have been call and wating an hour and 1/2 at Gray Hound station for WEL companies to call me back...( Na da and go home)
Two hours later after I got home...WEL's recruiter name TJ call me and gave me another Gray hound comfirmation number for Ticket.
I need to think twice and more ! I'm not sure I'll have Taxi to pick me up ! I'm not sure I'll have Hotel for the night !
More than that ! If I decide to work for WEL companies " I'm not I'll have WEL Support team when I needed" -
What kind of equipment does wel use? Are they manual or automatic transmissions?
thank you -
I dont know about the whole fleet but I follow a guy johnny be good on youtube who has a brand new T680 auto ..Im calling them Monday to find out directly
-
I watch his videos also. He showed off some of there trucks. They run Kenworth T660, and T680. Peterbilt 386 and 579. It's a mix between auto and manuals. His 2014 T680 is auto and the other week he had to use a loner. That one was a 2015 T680 Manual.
