there are trucks on our roads carrying secret gov't cargo, requiring security clearance sponsored by the hiring company. While My uncle did this work years ago, early 90's he never disclosed what he hauled and in fact said a lot of times he did not know. He carried special documents to show law enforcement and dot scales, and actual bill of lading would be locked in with cargo. Escorts would be near at all times and his routes were layed out including fuel, break, and he had to park in "safe" areas at night. He hauled for this company about five years and quit, did not need the stress he said. he never said what he made during that five years but my aunt once told my mother that their 30 year mortgage was payed off in about a year and because of that job they would be comfy the rest of their life. He has passed and I did not drive then so I never thought to ask the name of the company he pulled for, but I do know that he had been driving over 20 years with a perfect record before he worked there and drove for awhile after that. I am guessing that it was probably over 150,000 then and could not imagine what it would pay now, but like I said, that's just a guess. The people who know what this kind of job pays are not likely to be found talking about what they do, what they make, who they work for, ect.

The best paying freight all depends on where you are and who you are working for. Sure what you are pulling can make a difference.. reefer freight will pay more than dry freight. High, heavy wide will pay more than regular flatbed loads.. Hauling in the oil industry whether in the patch or not is going to pay more than OTR food grade tanker work.. this is all a generalization, there are going to be instances where someone will say differently. But for the most part that is the nature of the beast. -
