I hauled chips out of LaPine last Saturday (Quicksilver) and hope they send me back this weekend.
I lived at Wickiup Juct. for a while in the '70's and went to high school in Bend...Orygun native.

I think the whole state is a bust. I lived outside grants pass for 5 years and for the life of me couldnt find a decent job. Even the crappy 8/hr jobs no one would hire me cuz i came from out of state i guess. Its why i ended up driving a semi then moved the heck out of there. Like La Pine Grants Pass is full of retired people. After i started driving I used to go to Chiloquin alot too to pick up windows from that window company there i cant remember the name of it now... Oh yeah Jeldwen
i always thought 97 was great for snow driving, you hardly ever had to chain the truck unlike the Siskews......

Beautiful place to live but hard to make a living, still it keeps growing.
When I first lived in Bend in 1970 the population was about 8500,now it's over 85,000!

Ya growing up there from as long as I can remember people always called it poverty with a view. I always said that when I got old enough to buy a house I wanted to be able to see Bachelor but then all them Commifornians moved in and drove up the prices so much that that wasn't going to happen. #### those Californians, the horse they rode in on and the state they came from. Any way it u s real pretty but the work force is nill! For a while like 6 or 7 years ago you would see lots of people [contractors for sure] driving around a brand new lifted duramax a new lance camper on the back pulling a trailer with new quads or jet skis. .....not anymore. Tons of people lost everything they owned b3cause it was all financed and when things went south, the banks got all there stuff back. You would hear lots of the stories that ended in bankruptcy and divorce. Kinda a shame but so many people were living outside there means. You don't see all those nice toys running around now days.

Ok so I've made it to the Hobbs area. Check this out.... I'm driving towards Hobbs out of love something here and this guy pulls up to me yelling at me, mind ya we are doing like 50 mph and offers me a job. Has anyone heard of this company called Allens Casing? Recently bought out by Franks International.
This place really is a dump and I don't think I want to live here but Monday I will hit up all the major players and see what happens. I sure hope that the Odessa Area is a little nicer. But after talking to a few people I don't think job hunting will last too long. ...hopefully! Oh by the way for people that haven't been here these oil places stink. If you are sensitive to odors this might be a bit rough. And the rv parks here are not what I'm used too that's for sure. There's no grass or nothing pretty about this place .....dirt lot and more dirt around. Bring your own greenery.

its not as pretty in texas as it is in oregon. its dry and scruffy and kinda junky. I used to drive thru when i was otr plus my son lived outside San Marcos. But you have to go where to work is. Dont let that deture you. My son moved out of Texas and lives in Minot now working for Hess and he cant stand it in North Dakota. He says people are so much nicer and the food is so much better down there in Texas and i imagine he will be going back when he is done over there.

    Oregon Grown,

Remember that Texas has a lot of desert, there's not going to be much to look at in the Odessa/Midland area besides pump jacks and tank batteries. I lived in Monahans for six months, it's about 30 miles west of Odessa, I made some money and moved out to the Three Rivers/George West area. It's a lot nicer here in South Texas.

If you really can't stand the scene in the Midland area you might try heading south. Lot's of work here too. I got hired on with a company called "Mission Petroleum" hauling crude oil with no crude experience, I'm two weeks into my three weeks of training.
