I lost weight by cutting out stuff like bread and pasta and processed foods. I had gained some weight a couple years back after going through a bad divorce so I ate a lot of that stuff while I was depressed. It was hard at first because I had developed such bad cravings for junk and wheat products. After a week or so I lost the cravings for it, I have a lot more energy and my belly is flat again and I haven't felt this good in years.

For breakfast I usually have some plain yogurt with a little honey in it and maybe a little bit of fruit and some water with lemon juice in it. I eat meats, eggs, cheese, vegetables, healthy oils and fats like coconut oil and olive oil, and almost no processed foods. I eat a lot of salad with some chicken or other protein on it.

If I'm craving something sweet I'll have a spoonful of almond butter or natural peanut butter which is good for you. I used to eat a chocolate bar almost everyday but I no longer have a craving for it. Carbs are good for you but you have to eat the right carbs. Processed stuff like breads are not good carbs, vegetables are good carbs.

I think that just eating more natural foods is the key to losing weight.

Also I try to do just a little bit of exercise everyday. I do flatbed work so I do get some exercise from my job but I still try to do something even if it's just 10 mins or so or walking or some kind of strength training even if I only have time to do one exercise per day.

Hey yes I'm still here and still at it. I've maintained a weight of 245-265 for about 2 years now. I get lazy and the weight creeps up then I get serious and it comes down. I've set a goal to be my proper weight this summer when I turn 50. I've even cut out the beer which is pretty serious. That low carb beer is OK but it always triggers cravings for pizza and sugar, so it has to go, for the time being at least. Ive also noticed that eating grains seem to coincide with joint pain so I'm being pretty careful with them. Thanks for asking.

Ha ha ha. I know the feeling. I'm the same except Panera French baget bread with roast beef, cheese, tomato, onion and mayo. I'm 6' tall and 190 pounds and stuck there. I don't do the low carb thing but considering it.
Not sure I could do away with bread and pasta. Good luck!

You are not alone with the issue of weight loss. The Atkins diet is a good start but perhaps leans a bit too much in the direction of protein. I'm more and more convinced that the food industry is just one big corrupt entity and influence us to eat a certain way, which is a high carb/ low fat diet. We can all agree perhaps that sugar and too many carbs will kill any attempt in losing weight. In order to lose weight on a consistent basis you have to do the exact opposite and go for a high fat/ very low carb lifestyle. Trouble is that it's hard to get yourself off the sugar cravings. It takes time. I eat a lot more nuts and I've taken a liking to almond butter. I also eat lots of fresh veges and fruits. The trick is to kill the hunger cravings and lots of fats in nuts for instance will help towards that.
I've just been introduced to a great book....."Eat Fat, Get Thin" by Dr Mark Hyman. Its an eye opener and reveals the bias and corruption going on between the various Govts and special interest groups. The sugar lobby has a strong influence on dietary policy. Its a scandal and something we all need to be aware of.
    Good luck.

Hello Bob, just wondering if you've considered cutting out Gluten? I use to be in permanent pain because my muscles were always inflamed. I went completely Vegan and gluten free. My pains are gone. I think that the gluten was the main culprit and the meat and dairy compounded my problem. By the way just found your post glad to see your still working at it.

    CONGRATS!
I'm with you on the no grains. No more knee and knuckle pains. I do something very similar to atkins. The paleo. Nothing made of grains, dairy or legumes or containing them. All inflammatory products.
    I started February 1 and I'm down 21 lbs.

Keep at it. Short term goals seem to help. Maybe just get through the day with no junk food.
