Back in Moriarty again. I'm trying out the Chinese restaurant with the truck parking in back for a change. Tomorrow looks like Webber Falls, OK for a 640-mile dash. Today was pretty nice and I got 6.7 mpg going mostly uphill. I short-fueled in Joseph City for the third time in the past 3 or 4 weeks, just putting on 100 gallons to get me to some cheap OKC fuel. I really would like to trade trailers and routes soon!

You can ask your DM for something new. I prefer to take my chances and gripe about it, lol.

I'm going to use this as a chance to let the numbers speak for themselves. What Sharpp says is absolutely true, if you are a smart L/O you love to see the price of fuel climb. Let me illustrate. At the current FSC of .45 cpm and a 7.5 mpg tank of fuel JCT is giving you $3.37 per gallon to offset the cost of fuel. At the pump price in Minooka, IL was $3.89. Meaning you would have paid .52 cents per gallon out of pocket. Let's look at 8 and 8.5 mpg.

    8 ×.45 = 3.60

    8.5 × .45 = 3.82

As you can see, the better your fuel mileage, the more JCT is giving you per gallon of fuel to offset the cost. Now some of you may be saying "But West, that doesn't tell me why you want the price of fuel to go up." Well let me show you! Lets raise the FSC by .01 cent and use the same miles per gallon.

    7.5 × .46 = 3.45

    8 × .46 = 3.68

    8.5 × .46 = 3.91

As you can see just an increase of .01 cent per mile in the FSC results in a .08 cent per gallon increase in the price paid per gallon by JCT. That is why smart operators get giddy like little kids when the price of diesel starts to climb. This is also why I think it is important to get out the pen and paper and figure your mpg for every tank of fuel you run through the truck.

Also, if you all haven't figured it out yet, I like playing with numbers as much as Sharpp!

Tell me if these numbers are pretty close or not.. I want to lease purchase so bad I can taste it but I hear so many people fail.. Off of 3000 mile week getting 7.5... Fuel 1500 truck 500 maintence 200 income taxes 250 insurence plates and other fees 150 total 2600 that would be like 1400 take home??? Am I missing something? I could live with them numbers!! Lol

Back at Sapulpa for the 3rd time this week. Been pulling in with less than 15 minutes on my 70 each time until today. I will be heading to harrisonville mo next for a 0300 delivery appt then I shall swing by the K.C./OOIDA truck show for a few hours on my way to the house.
While at the yard I have had the opportunity to visit with a few of the active members from this thread in person. Very nice.
i also received confirmation that I have exceeded the 1mil mile mark since joining JCT.

I'm a numbers guy, too, so I love this kind of info. But to be fair, like Sharpp, I like to gripe from time to time, too!

Let's see...no wasted time, a million miles, two truck shows and a 0300 delivery. Yup. You've got it figured out. You might consider making trucking a career!

Question (and I hope someone knows the answer): I will be making a personal trip to Lawton, to visit my grandchildren in the next month or so, and since Sapulpa is pretty much right on the way, I wonder if the recruiting department would accept a walk-in visit to initiate a dialogue?

It's been my experience that the ones that fail with JCT have no understanding what it means to be a L/O, No business mind to speak of, you cant run a lease truck like a company driver, I was with this company for 4 years, they are not your typical "rip off lease deal", there are many drivers who have paid off their trucks, But have some intelligence about it, Good luck
