Check that on health insurance for the Lease guys. The group plan for LO is done. They are currently looking at the law and options for contractors. As of now they will be left to find their own coverage.

The video indicated that they were looking at options, and the early answer is they "hope" there will be an in-house option... update status in November which is soon enough. Yep, we need to be looking around. Now is when you need to be screaming at your state house if they kicked the can down the street.Bkkphotog Thanks this.

When did that happen? In the benefits meeting I was in just a couple weeks ago LO were in There and were offered coverage?

Please stay on topic... this is the lease thread. It was announced last night, and will not affect company drivers outside of the contents of the policy.

You lease guys haven't much time to wait for Prime, or decide which plan to go with from obamacare . If I remember correctly, Insurance must be purchased before Dec 15th for it to take effect Jan 1. The deadline where penalties start Which confuses a lot of people who think the deadline is March 31st, but is actually the end of open enrollment.
Doesnt matter if your state "kicked the can." Any state that didn't take the money to set up their own exchange has one set up by the Federal Govt.
I've shopped just to look in my home state and one I'm thinking of moving to.
One was very easy to see all the plans I qualified for, the prices and breakdown of the plans with just some basic info about me and I didn't have to set up an account.
The other only had a calculator to estimate, and I was required to create an account to even look and compare plans (I didn't even try to set up an account). The calculator just gave me a price range and told me I wouldn't qualify for subsidies.
Now since I didn't set up any accounts and was just looking to compare, I seriously can't tell you how hard it is to sign up, or any glitches you might happen to come across. -
First, 45 days from Nov 1st is plenty of time... remember, this is the side of the house that thrives on making command decisions for themselves. And second, the hard core red states have made it as difficult as possible even to get into the federal market place. But that's neither here nor there in time of the subject theme of this thread. Third, thanks for the heads up on the 15th of December. With no other words from Prime on this, I for one hadn't considered that Prime was going to dump our coverage.

Did you watch the Prime video? Ignore that for a second. Have looked at any fact sheet on the new law before you point the finger at Prime "dumping" you?
There are only two places where insurance fered/available now thanks to our dear leaders. Employer provided, and self purchased thru the exchanges.
Before the law took effect Prime facilitated health insurance to Lease Ops by having a L/O "pool" or group plan offered to Lease Op. They didn't contribute to the plan or pay premiums. they just made it easier for the lease guys to band together in their own insurance pool. It would be the same if you had joined OOIDAs health care plan. Where You'd be pooled with other lease ops, owners ops, drivers. The coverage is set and rates are determined by the healthcare costs spread over the entire "pool"
Prime isn't "dumping" you. The law is. It's dumping you into the exchanges. Their hands are now tied by the law to providing insurance only to employees from what plans available from the insurance providers.
Lease Operators are not employees.
Quite a few people are going to realize that the President's statement If you like your health-care plan, you will be able to keep your health-care plan. Period, doesn't even come close to the mark.
Prime Lease Ops who get their healthcare coverage thru Prime are losing their coverage. Lease Ops now have another monthly expense to consider. So yes, this is defiantly "in-tune" with this thread.
We can all see the IP play book. If you don't want to inject politics in the discussion you should go back and read some of your posts. You invite an opposing political view to comment with your snide comments, and then quickly discourage a challenge or opposing view by saying that it's not on topic. Its my thread Chuckie, and if you get it locked up in the political food fight I'll be pissed. That wasn't "a snide political comment," but a statement of fact. Nor is medical coverage "another expense" for myself or hopefully any other responsible IC.

I like both of you guys, so i am not going to delve into the fray. Chuck, I agree with your post completely.
L/O's and O/O's can still get their own insurance IF they become an LLC or S-corp. As an actual corp. you can go to insurance companies and buy a policy for your "employees" which means you, the L/O. It might even be a little cheaper and/or more flexible than the government pool plans.
If you do choose to go to the "obamacare" websites, stay away from the federal site. It crashes constantly and can't handle more than 55 thousand people per day. (at that rate it will take 2 1/2 years to sign up the millions of uninsured in the USA) State exchanges being run by smaller web companies are much better.bullhaulerswife Thanks this.
