Can't take it anymore....new drivers you are not slaves

OK, On the "trainees should interview the trainers" I don't agree with, you are the rookie, they are the trainer, you get to their truck and you don't like the condition, go back to office, explain you situation, and ask for another trainer, I'm not a slob, my truck is kept up, but as soon as some rookie driver is going to tell me what can and can't happen or will or wont happen, He will find himself setting in the parking lot of the company, MY truck! My rules! I'll decide when you drive, when you back, also with the reward card, again, my truck, mine will be used, use your card when you are in your truck, I did train many years ago, and only a hand full of drivers, if you can call them that, did I ever had a problem, and only one I refused to pass, Not saying trainer should be rude or anything like that, but as a rookie, no driver has to be a trainer, some may do it for the money, but there are a bunch that want to pass some knowledge on, Talk to your assigned trainer, when you meet him/her, Before you leave, don't demand things, this will just start you off on the wrong foot, while walking to the truck make conversation, this is a good way to find out the attitude of the trainer, once at the truck, take a peak in, looks like a dump sight, you don't have to enter, just head back to who ever does the signing of trainers and talk with them

 

Ok, I will get a lot of hits over this. My 2 cents. You train a monkey, you train a dog. You Teach a driver. I had about two weeks behind the wheel after 3 years driving a garbage truck. My "trainer" was a CPA that made money in the off season driving a truck. He was a slob. How he got the job I can only guess he wanted more money. Very small company, nice trucks. He wanted me to do his clothes, bring him food, ect. Worked about 3 weeks. Take a shower Dude. Push came to shove. He took a swing & missed. I got an airline ticket to home base. Ok I'm fired. Oh well. Waiting for me was a fairly new tractor of my own. To my surprise I was the only one to last three weeks with this creature. Dispatch made sure we never crossed paths.

 

The reason I ask is a driver I was talking to last week said his son's trainer had actually shoved him around and bullied him, I'm not sure I could put up with that.

 

New drivers aren't slaves - I consider them "indentured servants."
