URS or United Road Service pays by the mile. Home time depends on whether you are local, regional or OTR.

Sadly Speedy, from what I've seen recently, the way these newer guys get fast is short-chaining and "any hook, any hole!" They think because the car doesn't move, everything is ok, when there's a lot more to it than that. They don't even realize how much they don't know!

It seems to me there was a time when a manufacturer wouldn't give you the time of day, let alone a contract to haul their cars, if you're drivers weren't trained. But yeah, I agree with that Hammer. I've seen some pretty snaky loads leave various railheads in broad daylight, put on by oblivious and blatant drivers alike.

Before you do go anywhere Call Hanson and JMN they both train as well.I know JMN puts you with a Vet driver for 2-3 weeks on a daycab and if your going to be a otr driver the last week of training will be in a sleeper truck because it loads different.
And I personally prefer % over per mile you can make more.
Far as speed it comes with time even the Vets when you give us a new truck it takes a bit longer to load the first few times until you find how it all goes on and everything moves.
Speed would be the last thing on my mind atm I would be more worried about no damages and not driving one off the side.

1099 driving their truck is against federal law. Screws you out of workers comp benefits, social security payment by the employer and unemployment. That is why they get unknowing drivers to do that. The company and you can be fined by the feds.

Incorrect. If you are in a situation where you have say on the loads you haul and where you go it is entirely legal. That is how FedEx contractors pay drivers. If it was illegal they wouldn't allow it.

There also has to be financial risk by the driver, it takes more than just the choice of where to run. If you're running someone else's equipment, and they're covering expenses, the irs is unlikely to consider you a contractor. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p1779.pdf
